Hello, to all who are interested in Pinzon cookware: Speaking as the manufacturer of this cookware I would like to make a note regarding the capacity markings. All Pinzon cookware has the added benefit of internal quart markings. These quart markings provide the opportunity to avoid using other measuring devices before pouring the contents in to the pot. It's a convenience that is indicative of the added value of Amazon's Pinzon cookware.
Some of you have remarked that the quart markings on the interior of the pots are misleading. Let me explain. The accepted standard of pot capacity by the Cookware Association of America is to measure capacity at the point the contents are full to the absolute brim of the pot. Thusly for a 3.5 qt saucepan, the last mark will be at 3.0 qts. The remaining 1/2 quart of capacity would fill the pot to the absolute maximum. While it is unrealistic to fill a pot that high, it's important that the capacity be a standard measurement (to the brim). Most pots are not marked internally. Therefore, users can reliably know that anything less than filling the pot to the brim is less than the capacity. For instance, if the user were to need 3 qts of water and used a 3.5 qt saucepan, the user would intuitively fill the pot to something less than the brim. I use this pan almost daily. All my other pans are well known brands and this pan holds up just as well & cooks as well. I would buy it again. We call this our potato pan because this is the one we always use to boil potato's. I like the glass cover too. It has one little hole to let some of the steam out.
