All of the Pinzon blades in this set are constructed of high-carbon, stainless-steel and have been forged from one piece of metal, then ground and polished for maximum strength and stain-resistance. They boast a full tang, which is triple-riveted to polypropylene handles that are both ergonomic and hygienic. Each knife also features a bolster, the thick junction between the handle and the knife blade, to protect knuckles and provide a counter-balance for better control. The 7-slot block, balanced on four feet, is constructed of rubberwood, a durable hardwood. Hand-washing is highly recommended.
What's in the Box
6- and 8-inch chef's, 5- and 7-inch santoku, and 3-inch paring knives; 10-inch sharpener; shears; and 7-slot rubberwood block.

Knives look good in the block, but performance is like a cheap set from Wal-mart,

Pinzon is an Amazon brand, so I thought I would get good value for my money, especially as the other 16 pc set has high ratings from many reviewers. But the knives that I got perform just like the cheap knives available off the shelf for ten bucks at your local discounter. In fact, I prefer my cheaper Faberware knife set that has lasted me 2 years with regular use as they are lighter than the Pinzon knives. These knives arrived not very sharp and the included sharpening tool failed to sharpen them enough to be used to finely chop my herbs or vegetables. I found myself reaching for my faithful Faberware chef's knife instead as it was taking so much longer to mince or cut with these heavy and not so sharp knives. Next I'll get a good knife sharpener and see if that does these knives any good.
Upate: Feb 2007. I bought a sharpening stone with oil at the local Home Depot and sharpened these knives. They are still too heavy for me and not so sharp. In fact, the sharpening stone did wonders for my old stamped out knives but not for these forged knives. For cutting vegetables I'd prefer lighter and thinner knives that slice through cleanly. The thick side of the blade on these knives is about 3 mm on the Chef's knife and while the weight of a thick blade is good for minicing...it does not help slicing at all. I would not touch my tomatoes or even zuchinni with these knives! Update: May 2007: Now this set is selling for under 15 bucks. I had bought it for 30 bucks and that was the reason for my higher expectations. This set is getting 5 stars for some reviewers now as the pirce finally matches the performance!

These knives are ok, definitely a good deal for the price. Mine arrived sharp, but after three months of use I've had to sharpen them. They look nice and have been an inexpensive replacement for the cheap-o knives I had been using.
