I neglected to mention in the video that you can lock the peeling arm back if you only want to core and slice your apples. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Apple Peeler BUT....
Purchased this item hoping it would be better than the Rotato which cost about the same. I could not get the suction cup to keep a grip on my counter. So I had to hold the peeler by hand. Did a great job peeling, coring and slicing apples, but did not handle the potatoes very well. Quality wise this unit looks like it will last for a long time, however I will not be using...

A brief video showing the Pizon Apple P/C/S in action. I was surprised that the gadget works as well as it does and is so easy to use and clean up. I neglected to mention in the video that you can lock the peeling arm back if you only want to core and slice your apples. UPDATE (08/29/2011): It has been over 2 years now and the Pinzon Peeler is still going strong. I've had no issues with the suction cup. This has proven to be a useful and versatile kitchen implement. For what it is worth, this peeler is essentially the same unit as the Back to Basics, RSVP and Victorio models, so purchase according to price.

UPDATE (11/21/2011): Still using the peeler a lot and during apple season it sees even more use. I've started just coring an apple and putting in my kids' lunch bags. It is a healthy snach and they have fun eating at school in the unique 'slinky' shape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy way to peel, core and slice your apples, April 21, 2009

Great little device. Quick and easy and safer than using a knife. Just be careful, the slicer and peeler are sharp. Simply attach to your counter, slide on an apple and turn the crank. It's that easy!

Must be washed by hand with soap and water. Although, there is not much residue left behind.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does more than peel apples, April 30, 2009

In this video review I show some dishes that can be prepared using the Pinzon Apple Peeler, Corer and Slicer. Yes, it was designed for apples but it can do much more. I demonstrate how it will also peel potatoes as well as make ribbons out of vegetables such as carrots, zucchini, yellow squash and parsnips. This is my first video review and there are a few glitches but I hope that it is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apple Wizardry!, March 22, 2010

This review is from: Pinzon Apple and Potato Peeler, Corer, and Slicer (Kitchen)
I bought this apple peeler for my daughter in her new home because I have always loved mine. It makes the process of coring apples for chunky applesauce or apple pies a breeze. As long as you can get a good seal on the suction to hold it in place, you are good to go and a bushel of apples will be conquered in no time. It is possible to either remove the peel or leave it in place and neither big nor small apples are a problem. It is fascinating to older kids who always volunteer to help when they see what I am doing and the younger kids always come to pilfer the strips of peel! In fact, my grandson who is a picky eater is now proudly poking his fingers through the hole left by the apple core and eating the apples right off his hand. To keep the blades sharp make sure to wash the gadget right after use--the acidic juice will dull the corer and peeler.

It usually leaves one tiny strip of apple skin at the end. Big deal. It peels the heck out of the rest. You don't waste much apple as the shavings have little white on them. It looks like it will hold up over time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spirals, spirals, spirals, sp... OH!, September 17, 2009
This review is from: Pinzon Apple and Potato Peeler, Corer, and Slicer (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
It wasn't until I re-read the item description that I figured out how to make this item stop turning everything in to peeled spirals, as mine arrived with no instructions.

The Pinzon peeler is very well made, and can tear through apples about as fast as you can turn the crank. I was really surprised and impressed by how well it cores apples, too. I've probably run 50 or so through this, and not a single seed!

Keep in mind that this peeler isn't even remotely safe to have around young children, between the spikes that hold the apple or potato in place, the peeling blade, and the spiral blade. Fortunately, the suction cup does a very good job of keeping the peeler in place, and it comes off just as easily.

My only real gripe with it is that it's kind of a pain to wash.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for 4 apples, but then broke., September 27, 2011

This machine looked promising. In fact, it worked great for the first four apples that I peeled. I was thrilled at how easy the apples were peeled and sliced. It saves a tremendous amount of time when preparing apples for dehydrating. The apples are sliced to a perfect thickness for dehydrating. The entire peel is removed with ease. Awesomeness! Unfortunately, during my fifth apple, the handle that turns the auger broke. Specifically, the screw that holds the metal section to the auger was stripped, making the handle useless. I am returning this to Amazon for a refund. I'm going to try a different brand. I found another brand that has a 5 year warranty, so hopefully it is better quality.

UPDATE (2011-10-02)
I purchased a second apple peeler - made in the USA, with a 5 year warranty! Not sure if I can give the brand in my review, but it can be purchased on Amazon. The new peeler is more heavy duty. The frame is made of cast iron. The auger is thicker and made of a more robust material. I went through a bushel of apples with ease. This Pinzon appears to be a cheap made-in-China knockoff of the better quality apple peelers out there. Steer clear and spend the extra few dollars on a quality peeler.

UPDATE (2011-10-27)
The second peeler that I purchased was NOT made in the USA, however, it does work better than the Pinzon. I have peeled and cored six bushels of apples since getting it and haven't had any issues with it. The brand that I purchased was a Victorio found on amazon here: [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars It works. Watch out for soft spots., June 20, 2010

This appears to be the same peeler, corer, slicer that's sold all over for a wide range of prices. The suction cup holds well. Works as described. BUT, if there is a soft spot on the apple, the peeler may not continue to peel after hitting it. It seems like the peeler portion digs in too far at the soft spot, then just quits. A simple reapplication of the peeler arm and all's well.

You can run the two portions of this device solo. So, you can peel and not core or slice, or you can core and slice without peeling.

There was also an extra corer/ slicer arm in the box. The instructions are ok, but it's pretty self explanatory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had bought this sooner, February 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pinzon Apple and Potato Peeler, Corer, and Slicer (Kitchen)
I love apples but can't stand the peel on the apple. It has always been a pain to remove the peel then cut the good part of the apple away from the core leading me to not eat many apples. Not anymore, after buying this apple peeler, I'll be eating many more apples. This machine makes the process so easy and relaxing that I look forward to having an apple. It takes the skin off, cuts the apple and removes the core, what more could you ask for, plus it does a great job. If you want to make apple pie and you need large slices of apple then you would want to remove the cutting blade, which is simple, because the slices are to thin. So far all the apples I've used have been peeled perfectly except for right up at the top there is sometimes a little skin left but that disappears when the core is removed.

It is easy to clean and the suction on the bottom works great after the first time using it.
