These butter keepers work great HOWEVER I had to have the first one I received replaced because the lid was warped in such a way that it didn't sit correctly on the base. I just got my replacement today, and this one is actually warped worse than the first! I know they are not all like that, because I have used the one my sister has, and another that a friend has, and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Sturdy Butter Crock, December 2, 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is a very well made and simple item with a very simple task that nothing else can accomplish - keep butter soft and accessible for quick use at the table! Hard and cold butter is not spreadable, so for spreadable butter, you put some of your softened butter into this little crock, add some water and just place it on your table. Some little tips:

1. Don't fill up the butter all the way up the rim, just fill it a bit below.
2. Change out the water every few days, making sure that the water doesn't ever completely evaporate out.
3. Make sure that when you fill with butter and as you use the butter, you maintain the butter on the edges so it can create a seal. Don't remove all the better from the edges - try to keep it as even as possible or else the butter can fall out.

The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it's a plain white color and I would like to see some other color options. As far as functionality goes - this is a 5 star item. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and is well made. I have no doubt it will last forever as long as it's not hurled and smacked around.

If you're looking for a simple item to keep your butter spreadable and you like the plain white look, then this item is definitely a good buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, October 29, 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have been wanting one of these forever, but just never got around to buying one. This one works great and it is so convenient to have soft butter on the counter to spread or whip into a recipe.

I like that this is white, it matches my table and my kitchen which are two different color pallets. Make sure you do not fill the butter past the top and don't add too much water or you would have a mess. Be aware that there is a bit of water that drips from this because it is sitting in water, I know that sounds silly to note, but just make sure you hold it over the crock when you lift and use it.

The crock and top are smooth glazed porceline, but the top ring around the handle is not glazed. We have had it for just a week and it has already absorbed some color from people's hands, kind of icky -- wish it was all glazed.

The butter keeper is plain white, and should fit with most decor color schemes. It doesn't call attention to itself sitting on the counter, but when you open it up, it automatically becomes a conversation topic.

It does exactly what it's supposed to; keep butter without refrigeration on the counter for up to 30 days. It holds a quarter-cube of butter, and when it's full the butter is just below the rim of the bowl. The only minor mishap was when the butter was not "sealed" in around the edges and the suction of the water when removing the bowl caused the butter to be pulled out of the bowl and into the water. No harm done; we just fished the plug of butter out of the water and placed it back in the bowl.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Version of an Old Idea, October 20, 2008
This review is from: Pinzon White Ceramic Butter Keeper [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Theory is very simple. Fill the crock section of the holder with softened butter. Run a little tap water into the cup. Turn the crock upside-down in the cup and leave on the breakfast table for up to a month. The water prevents air from reaching the butter and causing it to go bad. Since the butter is stored at room temperature, it is always spreadable.

While the photos of the crock show it full past the brim, don't do this. On the first fill bring the butter just "up to" the rim. As you use butter out of the crock try to take it evenly off the top and not from around the sides. The surface tension of the butter against the sides will keep it in the crock and out of the water. If you keep your house very warm, you might have some trouble keeping the butter from sliding into the water.

The Pinzon Butter keeper feels sturdy (thick) and should hold up to continual use. I find it helps to change the water every few days.

These butter keepers work great HOWEVER I had to have the first one I received replaced because the lid was warped in such a way that it didn't sit correctly on the base. I just got my replacement today, and this one is actually warped worse than the first! I know they are not all like that, because I have used the one my sister has, and another that a friend has, and both of theirs are fine. Since UPS has lost my return shipment, I've decided I can't risk having to pay for yet ANOTHER butter keeper by getting a third. Also, there is no guarantee that the next one won't be even worse yet. Hmmm...I'm not the type to usually give up and settle, but in this case it just seems easier.

This butter keeper is very sturdy and functions just like it is supposed to. It holds one stick of butter exactly. I haven't had any problems with the butter falling into the water, but it hasn't really warmed up in my house yet. I love the plain white because it goes with anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Butter Keeper is a keeper!, November 20, 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My husband and I only eat unsalted butter, never margarine. The only disadvantage to butter is that is very difficult to spread out of the refrigerator. The bread looks like it has been through the blender! Once we tried the Pinzon butter keeper, we knew we found the solution. The butter keeper sits on the counter and is always available to spread on bread or toast. I wish it held more butter, but it does the job it was meant to do - spreadable butter!

This item is the best! I had never heard of a butter keeper, but got so frustrated trying to spread hard butter so I decided to try this. I have had no trouble using this, it holds a little more than one stick of butter, so it is easy to keep filled. It is so nice to be able to spread fresh butter on muffins, bread, etc. without waiting for the butter to soften up. I was afraid I would forget to change the water, but this has not been the case since I use this every day. I just dump the old water out, rinse and refill. The butter stays in the cup without any problem. I guarantee you will love this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars greatest thing since sliced bread, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Pinzon White Ceramic Butter Keeper [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Kitchen)
This is so simple and back to basics yet so cool. Forget about the garbage they usualy put in the spreadable butter, get the real thing but you can have it spreadable any time you want it. We LOVE it, and gave one to my friend and she loves it too, and everybody else that sees it. Buy it with no regret.

This item is great for storing butter that would otherwise melt into the bottom of our big, clunky butter dish. The only difficulty is getting the butter inside of it. To do so you must use room temperature butter. Also please note, it will not work for margarine.
This item is absolutely worth the money spent!
