5.0 out of 5 stars great charcoal barbeque
I would highly recommend this hibachi for fast summer grilling.
When I was a kid in the 70's living in the city we had two cheap hibachis. So, for me barbeque came to mean charcoal close up and personal.
Now I have my own place in another city and got a yearning for barbeque. I noticed my neighbors had both gas grills and charcoal Webers and it seemed that the...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but ...
I bought this [at $40] primarily because I wanted to revisit my childhood and that there are no wooden handles to burn up. Now that I've had my jollies, I thing I'll go back to my small Weber. 3-4 cups of coals is more than enough. The drop down front really serves no purpose. The sliding draft plate means one side [only] can be made hotter than the other. Large...

I would highly recommend this hibachi for fast summer grilling.
When I was a kid in the 70's living in the city we had two cheap hibachis. So, for me barbeque came to mean charcoal close up and personal.
Now I have my own place in another city and got a yearning for barbeque. I noticed my neighbors had both gas grills and charcoal Webers and it seemed that the Webers got more use so I started looking for my own charcoal Weber. But I really wanted a little hibachi for doing a few burgers, sausages, etc. and so ordered this as soon as I saw it on Amazon.
By the price, you can tell its not cheap. It's made by Lodge, so it is SOLID cast iron and holds heat extremely well. The first time I used it, I made the mistake of putting in too many briquettes (I got a bag of Original Charcoal Company Rancher briquettes which are wood w/o additives). The sausages cooked in no time and I ended up dumping the half-used charcoal briquettes in a bucket of water. The next night I only had a few items to grill so used about 15 briquettes and the Weber Chimney Starter. The briquettes heated up fast and I took the charcoal out of the chimney earlier than the directions said. Within half an hour of lighting the coals, I had four cooked hamburgers and was looking for more things to grill. After cooling off, the grill grate cleaned up no time.
Unlike the cheap hibachis of my childhood, I expect this to last for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Built to last., October 23, 2007

This thing is heavy! And I mean that in a good sense. It's obvious from the time you lift the box. The parts are well-constructed, and meant to last a lifetime. It cooks, well, like a hibachi, although it does come with a front draft door that allows you to control the heat somewhat. The reversible top grill also allows you a degree of control. If what you want a first-rate hiabachi, this will do the trick.

The grill is great because it heats-up quickly and allows for faster cooking time compared to larger grills. I use it about once a week to grill veggies. Perfect for two people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hibachi, October 19, 2007

I was surprised at the heavy duty construction of this product.
Very well made and engineered.
I have used this hibachi at tailgating parties and performs very well.
The drop down door is useful for adding additional charcoal.
The only drawback I can find with this procuct is the inability to
raise or lower the cooking grate.
But by adjusting the amount of charcoal compensations can be made.

As with any hibachi, no way to smother coals. You'll wonder what all the extra screw holes are for too!

Got this grill as something to use for just me and my husband. This is our first grill, so we did not realize that it takes awhile to get warm, so make sure that you are not too hungry at the time you start. It's very heavy and well built. Easy to assemble and use.

I love this little grill. It cooks wonderfully. Having used a gas grill for so long, I'd forgotten how much better food tastes with charcoal! It's a small grill, but I can cook a lot on it. Like 8 burgers at once. Can't go wrong with this! It is pretty heavy though, not for taking on the go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Grill, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Pinzon Hibachi Grill by Lodge (retired)
I couldn'y agree more. this is a great grill. We use it at home for the two of us when the big grills unnecessary. We also haul it around the country in our camper. It will be an heirloom I can hand down. I save the unburned coals by removing the grate, closing the draft and covering it with a piece of sheet metal cut to fit. I used a U-bolt as a handle in the center. No soggy briquets to dry.
