Close to the BEST down pillow for a side sleeper!,

Ever since I encountered THE perfect down pillow in a bed & breakfast we stayed in, I've been on the hunt for that pillow! It was sumptuous down, and your head sank slowly into it, but it had some "spring" and didn't souffle out like all the sad down replacements I've bought over the years.
This pillow is as close as I've come to the dream B&B pillow. You can punch it and fluff it up, and surprise! No pillow pancake! As much as I love down pillows, and with all the money I've spent on them, it never fails that eventually the pillow just loses its oomph. Not this baby. I purposely waited for several weeks to comment on it, just to see nightly sleeping would flatten it. It remains as properly lofty, but dreamily sinkable, as the best down pillow in that old B&B. I'd especially recommend this to a side sleeper. I read in bed, and the pillow gave me great back support, but when I turned out the lights, it morphed nicely into a comfortable, soft, yet supportive side sleeper pillow. I liked it so much I bought a second pillow! The price is definitely right. Just dreamy! This may not be that long-ago perfect pillow I remember, but honestly, it's as close as I've come, and that's saying a lot.

This is a great pillow! It doesn't "smush" down to a small bundle like some down pillows will. With very little effort, it forms to fit perfectly beneath my head and neck and doesn't go flat. My only mistake in purchasing it was buying queen size. I should have bought regular because my pillow cases are a little tight.

I've purchased other down pillows that intially offered support, then flattened out a couple of weeks later. So far, so good for this very comfortable item.

After purchasing a $40 pillow at Costco several years back and loving it, I read the praise on this one and bought it. But I am disappointed. The cover fabric is too rigid and the fill is not dense enough. The result is waking up with a flattened pillow and my face mashed against a hard pillow cover. It's not comfortable. I find myself having to re-fluff and shape it constantly.

It sits about 7 inches high when left alone,

I've never bought a pillow online, but the price was right so I tried this out. It puffs up so it is about 8" at it's highest point from the bed, and supports well. This is a bit high for my tastes, but I'm sure there are people who prefer this type of pillow.

After reading the reviews I couldn't wait to sleep on this pillow. However, the few that mention the internal plastic lining weren't kidding. The one night I slept with it, I had a dream that I entered one of those model homes with sheets of protective plastic canvassing the furniture. I attributed the realtor character, who had yelled at me for sitting on the pseudo couch, to the irritating plastic that was humming in my ear all night long each time I took a turn. I also woke up with a neck cramp and realized that the firmness promised for a side sleeper was a salespitch. An avid Amazonite, this is the first time I have ever made a return, so not to be taken personally by the Pinzon peeps -- I'm sure the other products in the line are up to usual Amazon standards. And who knows, maybe some people are into the sensation of sleeping on polymer surfaces. Personally, I would rather be stabbed by a renegade feather on occasion.

I didn't expect the moon when I got this pillow, but it IS a down pillow from Amazon selling at more than 3x the price of the cheap, standard, 10 buck pillow so I expected something. Honestly, even though it looks pretty good and feels good to the touch, as a pillow it might even be inferior to the cheap synthetic ones: it just goes flat far too easily. I personally am a stomach sleeper so I WANT a soft pillow, but this is too soft: the second I put any pressure on it it flattens down the whole way, down to less than an inch of not-very-comfortable feather&down. Whoever said this pillow sits too high for them "when you leave it alone" left a very misworded review. Yeah, it sits at a normal height for a pillow by itself (mine doesn't puff out to quite 7 inches), but all you need to do is gently touch it and it deflates faster than britney's career. I really wanted to like this pillow because I need a new pillow ASAP, guess I'm going to go out and buy one like a normal person now. The cover on this pillow is ALRIGHT, but I thought it was noticeably scratchy. No concern for me since I put my 600thread pillowcase covers on it, still didn't help the comfort though. I wanted this pillow to replace my old feather pillow that the dog ripped up. I also have an old $30 foam/feather combo pillow I got from Macys a couple of years back, it's to that pillow that I made the specific comparison. While lying down, I kept swapping the pillows back and forth. Honestly, it's not that this pillow was worse than my old one, (I'm not looking for a replacement I'm looking for a partner) it's that it actually was not comfortable. I couldn't see myself using it -ever- and I paid 35 bucks for it. Strange. I was somewhat put off by "Pizon - Basic Bedding" as the description of my item the clear ziploc bag that it was enclosed in. Again, this costs 3.5 times as much as what Calvin Klein labels "The Basic Pillow", because it has down of course, but still. I really can't say it's even AS comfortable, much less multiple times as comfortable. Too bad. Sorry Amazon, this goes back.

I have used a soft pillow for years as I turned from back to front to side and back again, and I loved the Pinzon soft down feather pillow. Lately I both realized that I was often bunching it up, and found on a trip that the firmer pillow in our good hotel worked really good. I'm getting older and am more comfortable doing most of my sleeping on my back. So I ordered this pillow. When it came, I was worried because it felt heavier and firmer than I thought I wanted. However, I'm glad to report that I'm loving it. It is just right for me.

Other than it being a down pillow, it was as good as any other cotton/polyester filled pillow in my house. I don't think it is worth the $40-$50 price.
In fact, there seems to be a layer of paper or plastic right between the pillow case/cover and the fill. I think it is there to keep the feathers from poking me on my face, but it takes away a lot of the softness of the down. I felt like I was sleeping on a bag. It also smells coming out of the box. I am still airing it out. It does come with another layer of zipped cover, which can be removed for wash. Materials made in China. |
