It's difficult to reproduce music well in a car, because speaker positioning is constrained by interior space and other conditions. First of all, the reason why I had purchased this item was because it had bluetooth and it was navigation ready on sale for only ($359). If the price is listed higher then $359 don't get it. Just wait for the price to go down. The higher end models that are twice as expensive and do not even include bluetooth or navigation ready. As soon as I had this item installed,
I was very impressed by the sound quality (you can custom tune the EQ), and I love how it's very simple to use. And it just came out as well.

It comes with a microphone where you can set it anywhere you want in the front of the car to talk into and it has the iphone function where you can dial numbers and view your phonebook through the screen. The touchscreen sensitivity is pretty good, not the best, but pretty good. I would rate the touch sensitivity 3.8 of 5 stars because its the push technology. I'd give the iphone's touch sensitivity 5 of 5 stars.

This system has a new feature called APP MODE which is awesome because you can view and control any of your applications from your iphone 4 or itouch through your head unit screen. The only downside to the APP MODE is Pioneer makes customers buy a specific cable for that feature to work. You need the Pioneer CD-IU51V which costs like $50.00 bucks. Not the Pioneer CD-IU50V. Total Rip-Off but its cool to own.

This unit comes with a remote control but it's really uncomfortable to use because it's so tiny and its hard to get a grip while driving. I would recommend you go on Pioneer's website and purchase a remote control separately (it's around $19-$29).

What's cool is that it can read SD cards. You can put pictures, movies, music, and etc. I prefer using an SD card over an ipod because ipod's require a long cable. Its just a pain to pull out the cable and then hide it every time you step out of your vehicle so that nobody see's it and tries to rob you.

Also, make sure you let the installer know that you want this head unit bypassed so you are able to watch movies as you drive. (Not that I recommend anyone doing that, but maybe for the passenger to watch and get comfortable with). If you don't get the head unit bypassed, videos will not play unless you are parked. I did the bypass myself and it doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes if you know what you're doing. In order to bypass it, you are going to need a Standard Bosch Relay (can be purchased at any electronic store for a few bucks or less). You do not want to get it bypassed by using a switch (let the installer know you don't want it done this way) because then you are going to have to turn the switch on and off every time you get in the car.

What I also like about this unit is that it will read almost any type of dvd video format. Also, you can go on itunes and burn 600 songs onto a dvd disc (format it as data disc), and it will play beautifully, all 500-600 songs. I recommend again, if you want to watch movies on screen from your itouch or iphone 4, you need to purchase the USB cable that pioneer has to offer (Pioneer CD-IU51V). NOT THE Pioneer CD-IU50V. You need the Pioneer CD-IU51V.

So far I have had this unit in for 1 day in my Truck and I can tell you that the sound improvement over the stock system is nothing short of amazing. For starters, I have a 2006 GMC Sierra. It comes with the GM Head Unit, Onstar integrated, and the Bose Amplifier. For those in a similar situation as I, you will have to get a GMOS-04 harness to keep ALL functionality in-tact. Also to keep your steering wheel controls, another module will be required. All in all it cost me over $200 past the purchase price to have this professionally installed...bluetooth headset, the harness which cost around 67 dollars, the steering wheel module which cost around $59, plus installation. IF you want to put this on your vehicle yourself, it is not too tough to do so, I just didn't have access to a garage and it is the middle of winter so I decided to pay someone to do it for me. Anyways, on to the important stuff:

Sound: 8/10, of course this isn't a premium unit so the sound even though is great, is not the best. Still for just about everyone out there, this unit will not be distinguishable from the Pioneer Premium series or any other high end one's. For the audiophiles out there, you might notice the highs aren't as high as you might like but still good for the price you are paying. Then again, I have the factory Bose system, and if I upgrade those, I might change my opinion but I am not replacing those anytime soon so don't hold your breath on an update on this part.

EDITED::::::: Bluetooth: 10/10, as it pairs with my Android Phone as soon I turn on the bluetooth on my Android Phone. Will update as I use it more often as 1 day is not enough to get a good reading of the bluetooth connectivity but nonetheless I am still very impressed. Navigation through the phone(Android) is not possible while connecting with bluetooth, only phone calls. I apologize as I did not specify that my phone was also connecting with an auxiliary jack, which is how I got my music etc playing through the stereo... Please forgive me for this misundertanding, but everything else is working great...

Installation: 10/10, my installer said it was the easiest he has ever done, especially since I provided him a harness that didn't need anything else added to it. He didn't even have to mess with wires on there.

DVD: 10/10, this feature is great. Not only can you play DVD Movies, but you can burn all your MP3's on a DVD and this unit will read that. What that means for you is that you can have 4-8 GB of music on a DVD which is equal to 6 to 12 CD's worth of MP3's on one DVD depending on whether you use single layer or dual layer DVD's. For movies, my installer was able to bypass the parking brake hookup with no issues so I could possibly watch a DVD while driving, though I don't ever see myself doing that, it is nice in case I go on a long road trip and my passenger wants to watch a movie. Also I have watched a DVD on this screen, kinda small but still very nice to have in case you are ever bored.

Display: 10/10, what can I say, nice and colorful and bright. Touchscreen, works as advertised, easy to use and not too hard to navigate through the menus. Bright enough to use in the daytime without any issues, but then again my windows in my truck are tinted pretty good so it might make a difference in some of the other vehicles out there without that tint to help block out the sun.

Ease of Use: 7/10, while I am good with electronics and it wasn't too hard for me to figure things out without a manual, most people will have an issue with finding things the first few days they use this unit. It will become second nature after a few days but still, a unit like this should be a little easier to use than what it is. I will post more on this after using it for a week.

Ipod Interface: 10/10, I have an iPod Nano, 1st Gen and it connects with the USB like a champ, shows everything on the headunit, able to navigate through all the music etc... on the iPod without any hiccups. I really like this feature and will be buying an iPhone for my next phone so I can have the same type of integration as it does with the iPod. In the meantime I might be picking up an iPod.

Future Integration: 10/10, as a person can put GPS Navigation on to this unit, a rear view camera to this kit, HD Radio Ready, what else can you ask for? This unit can also display the DVD to other units in the back seats etc... so headrest monitors for your kids are a possibility, also, if you don't own an iPod, or a bluetooth phone?????, you can always put all your music on a SD card and put that on this unit and it will read that just fine and play your music like a pro.

All in all for the money you spend on this unit, it is one of the best units out there at this time. Heck, it just came out in January, and I was lucky enough to get one from Abt Electronics, and I happened to get a great deal on mine. $369 for this unit. Even at $450 for this unit it is an awesome deal here on Amazon as if you go to Best Buy or other retail stores, you will see the 3200BT series are still going for $450 per unit, so get this new model for the same price as the old model.

Just a little bit of information to add for fellow android users and I am sure other phone users can benefit from this as well. I now use a 3ft long monster 3.5mm audio cable to connect my cell phone to this head unit. Doing this, you can play Pandora or any other streaming music from your phone to the stereo, but not only that, you can also use navigation and pair the head unit with the bluetooth for phone calls. So if I am going to Florida, and I want to listen to last.fm, I just play that on my phone which goes to the headunit and I listen to music, while I have Google Maps giving me directions through the head unit, and if a call comes in, I can hit answer and it will switch to bluetooth so I can use the included mic and answer the call. After I hang up, my music and navigation resumes... Ahh the joys of owning an android phone :) Ohh and I bought that monster wire from Amazon for $10, well worth it.

I will update this review as time goes on and I get more familiar with this unit.

This is a great radio/DVD player. It really sounds great, and I love the extra functions which my old Ford radio/CD player did not have! I was pretty happy with my Ford Premier Sound System, but now I will never go back to it.

I installed this in my 2000 Ford F150 Super Cab. To pull the factory radio I Goggled for information with pictures. I went to Install Dr (installdr.com), and downloaded their document # 356033. The instruction was for 1997 F150, but worked fine for my 2000 F150. I bought a set of U-Shaped removal tool at a local NAPA store. In the past I could cut and bend a metal coat hunger to make this tool, but today's coat hungers are made too light and too weak for this job. It took a little grinding on truck's plastic parts, and different bracket made for my truck, but it did install OK, maybe a little too tight to take it out. Although everyone says that the Double DIN Pioneers will not fit into Ford trucks, your local auto electronic installer should be able to fit this nicely in your Ford truck.

I have been using this wonderful head unit for a little over 3 weeks, now, and I am very very happy with it. This Pioneer sounded so much better than original Ford head unit, even with the original Ford factory speakers.

A couple of days after I changed the radio, I upgraded the factory speakers to Rockford 5X7 speakers, and installed them in XTC Acounstic Speaker Baffles, shallow ones up front & regular ones in the back. I did cut out holes (started with 1.5" X 2", and enlarged until it sounded good) on the bottom of baffles so that the bass does not sound muffled. High and mid tones improves with baffles naturally. With proper size holes on the bottom, the bass is also greatly improved, and I can, now, feel my doors vibrate with music. There is no distortion. I am wondering if I want to install a small Bazooka BTA6100 1-Way 6" Car Subwoofer in the truck, but I probably don't need it. I tweaked the equalizer a little, and the tuned baffles give plenty of nice tight bass. I appreciate good sound, but like to keep it natural, not too much boom-boom sound.

It did take a little time to get used to this player, but after a couple of days, I got everything set the way I like, and it does sound super good, now.
I bought a short 8-inch cable for my iPod, connected it to USB port up front, and music sounds wonderful. I have iPod Touch 3rd Generation and iPod Nano 6th Generation. Although the Touch sounds a little better, I like using the tiny Nano. The Nano 6G clips onto my GPS power cable nicely. It definitely is a huge upgrade from FM transmitter I was using with the old Ford factory radio/CD player. The iPod connection alone is worth spending money for this unit!

Before I bought this I was thinking that I did not need Bluetooth on the set because I used GPS for my cell phone. I do not use Bluetooth for anything else. I was wrong. This set has a great Bluetooth features for cell phone. First, it has very good sound, no comparison to my Garmin 1490T GPS or Motorola noise-cancellation Bluetooth speaker. I use Motorola VE-20 phone, not iPhone. I can keep my cell phone deep in my pocket, and do everything from the radio's touch screen. The phone book shows every number I have stored in my cell phone. I am not sure if the voice dialing will work...I have not figured it out, yet. I mounted the microphone next to the rear view mirror pointing toward me at the driver's seat. I can talk into it in normal manner even if I am driving on freeway with tuned exhaust system. I don't know if the microphone has noise-cancelation feature built in, but they can hear me clearly. The radio and music gets automatically muted as soon as phone is connected, and they come alive again when it is disconnected.

I do not watch DVD movies while driving, but when I was installing the set, I did use a relay to bypass the parking break. This may be good for my passengers on our long drives. I live in Alaska, and spend a lot of time driving in remote parts of the state, Canada's Yukon Territory, Northwest Territory and Northern BC where there could be nothing for up to 500 miles.

To bypass the parking break,
here is how it is hooked up with a standard 30Amp relay:
You need to run the relay to the ground.
#85: Remote turn on wire from the Pioneer deck
#86: Ground (to the car)
#30: Ground (to the car)
#87: Green parking-brake wire from the Pioneer deck
I like relay with little mounting tab with a screw hole. Instead of screw, I use 8" double-lock cable tie to secure the relay.


This also have a slot for SD card which even shows pictures from some of my cameras...only the ones which use SD card :-). I have not tried it, yet, but I am thinking about loading some music on the card. For music, I think a USB drive may work better than a SD card which can be a little slow to load. SD card will not be as visible as iPod or USB drive, though.

The remote which came with mine is not a tiny one some people got. It is not too small or not too big, but its functions are very limited. For using iPod, it is not fully featured, and does not do very much. My wife in passenger seat still likes it while we are traveling together. It gives her a nice volume control, and shuffle music with limitations.

The hardest thing for me was to properly adjust dimmer, color, contrast, etc for the screen. The way it was set up at the factory, I could not see the screen when the sun shined bright. Push and hold MENU button until the screen adjustment menu comes up, and adjust the dimmer. I have mine set for the maximum (I think it was +48, but not sure). I have the brightness set for -5, and contrast +10.I think it will be nice, like my truck's instrument panel, if it has a dimmer dial up front where I can just reach for simple adjustment. Also, if you have not done this already, go to menu to change APPEARANCE. How you set ILLUMINATION, SCREEN AND BACKGROUND can affect the display visibility. Under the bright sun, the green letters work best for my eyes.

I also would like it better if I can adjust the volume with old-fashioned knob. The way it is I cannot really fine tune the volume the way I like. It sometimes seems just a little too loud or just a little too quiet. Oh well, I am seventy one, and prefer having an old fashioned rotary dial up front on my cell phone :-) :-) (-: !!!

I am very happy with this Pioneer, and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a new head unit. Even nothing else is changed; sound improvement over the stock system is nothing short of amazing! With upgraded speakers this set gives unbelievable sound quality. Like our local electronic shop owners says, this is the best value for the price I paid for.
