First, for the money... This receiver is going to be exceptionally hard to beat.
Installation: The installation was very straight forward, as long as you have the appropriate Metra/Scosche mounting kit and wiring harness specific to your vehicle year/make/model. I did notice that the wiring harness for the receiver was very chincy and the wire gauge was smaller than what I have seen in other car audio receivers. I actually broke the plug on the harness when trying to disconnect the harness from the receiver. It didn't affect the receiver itself, but I was unable to unplug the harness, so I worked around it. Not a huge deal and not something I would dock a star for.

Sound: The sound quality of this unit is great. I love the graphic EQ for tuning. Much easier than previous units where I would have to +1 or -1 on things like Bass/Mid/Trebble. It's a lot easier to adjust the frequencies visually, from one screen. The sound field adjuster made it easy to find the vehicle's sweet spot as well. Overall, the sound is better than an older Alpine I had previously.

Video: I recommend getting the MicroBypass parking-brake bypass for use with video. After paying the $20 for the bypass and following the straight forward instructions, I inserted a DVD. The sound was good, the video was decent. I didn't buy the unit for its video capabilities... I bought it for its connectivity to my iPhone..... This is where it starts getting docked.

Iphone Functionality: I have an iPhone 5 with iOS6.1. This stereo is new for 2013, but doesn't cater very well to the newest Apple technology. The Lightning adapter was an afterthought. You cannot simply connect your USB/Lightning cable to this unit. It will not work. You have to purchase the Lightning/30pin adapter. STUPID.

I tend to keep cars for a long time, and always lust after features in newer ones while my car lacks the new toys. So, three years ago when I bought my car, I decided that I'd replace the factory stereo when my payments were through.

I wanted: a) bluetooth so that I can use the phone in the car, b) USB-input so that I could load up a memory stick with as much music as would fit, and c) a back-up camera (since the units I liked had screens anyway). I didn't want or need navigation, don't really care about HD or satellite radio, or anything that requires yet another monthly subscription to something.

The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT fit everything I wanted it to do. It's more intuitive than the single-DIN unit in our other car. I was able to figure out most of its features without resorting to the manual. The volume controls and forward/back track/radio advancing buttons take a little getting used to, but took just a couple of days to master. The bluetooth was very easy to set up, and works great. Playing CDs is a snap. Customizing the display to match my car's interior lighting (orange) was cool. I like the changeable display background, but it's curious that most of the designs are largely obscured by album art when playing media.

There is no on/off switch, which takes getting used to. There is a mute button and a "turn off screen" button, so pressing one after the other would effectively silence and blank the image, but to turn it off requires pressing the home button, and choosing "off" from the list of icons. The unit is designed to compliment iPhones and iPods (with the proper connections), like many audio devices. I have an Android phone, so I can't speak to the features that are made for the iUniverse.

The product was easy to install, and has a fantastic feature set. The Bluetooth Audio feature works really well, and my iPhone 4s automatically pairs with the device within a few seconds of power-on.

My problems
- No real iPod functionality until I bought the ridiculously overpriced Pioneer CDIU201S. As if this functionality couldn't be easily integrated into the unit when everything is USB connected.
- The features that work/don't work based on when you're stopped are arbitrary and ridiculous. Why can I set a graphical Equalizer but not change the display brightness?
- Also, the receiver is WAYYY too sensitive about when the brake is on. On my 350z, it usually takes me at least 4 or 5 tries to get the stereo to realize that my brake is on...

Conclusion:
- Buy the receiver, but if you're using iOS devices, count the cable in with the cost. Also, buy one of the Brake Override/Bypasses. Don't watch a movie while you're driving but Pioneer stupidly locks you out of so much stuff, it's worth it to get the bypass (maybe the bypass is made by the same team of people who decide which features work/don't work when the brake is on?)

I purchased this unit and had it installed last week and couldn't be happier. I have a 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with the factory Mach audio system which was always very good but the sound went south one day. The subwoofer worked but sounded like a normal speaker instead of a sub. With this unit the sound is amazing, there are so many adjustments over the sound with the 8 band eq, high and low pass filters, bass boost and loudness controls. The bluetooth works great, sounds incredible and pairs with my phone and begins playing music about 20 seconds after I start the vehicle. Overall the unit works great with my iPhone5 with just a usb to lightning cable. Phone charges, you get album art in iPod mode and Pandora and iHeart radio. I was originally going to buy the expensive array of Pioneer and Apple cables and do the much anticipated firmware upgrade to have video capabilities including GPS apps showing on the display but read too many negative reviews of how poorly the combo works so I decided against it and saved $140.00, both Apple's Maps app as well as Motion X GPS Drive give spoken directions thru the audio system while fading down the music. As others have said, some of the icons/controls are small and take some getting used to while driving, a lighter touch on the display is all it takes. Had a back-up camera installed as well which comes on with reverse or can be activated on the fly, get the parking brake override too as some functionality of the unit is locked out unless you are parked with the brake on. This stereo looks great as well and gives my older vehicle a new, high-tech look. I am very happy I chose this unit and would recommend it to anyone considering a double din stereo.
