I'm done with Pioneer products.
on January 30, 2011
Purchased this headunit to put in my Honda b/c the factory stereo did not have an AUX input which I really wanted for my MP3 player. My first impression when I opened the package was "wow, this wiring harness has the smallest wires I've ever seen". When I was stripping the wires to attach to the Honda wiring harness I thought I was going to break them just trying to strip the insulators off, they are very thin and fragile. Once I got everything wired up tightly, I installed the headunit in my car and everything worked great...for a short period of time. The first time I drove the car, after about 20 minutes, the unit just shut off (not protect mode like it was overheating, completely lost all power and erased all presets). I hit the power button and the unit came back on and did not have any trouble out of it for 2 more days, then randomly ZAP! all power was lost again. I figured I must have a loose ground wire or something was not tight with the wiring, so I pulled the unit out of the dash, cut all the wires, stripped them again and the used heatshrink tubing on all the wires so there was no question that everything was good and tight and nothing would be moving around back behind the headunit. Next time I drove the car, unit played for about 20-30 minutes and went out on me again. I turned it back on, all presets were lost again, stayed on about 3 minutes and went out again. I knew there was no issue with the wiring this time so the only conclusion was that the unit was defective. I also have to add that I have another pioneer CD player in another vehicle I own and it gives me problems as well, on cold mornings, if you hit one of the preset buttons in the middle of the faceplate, the stereo just blanks out and then turns back on (loose connection on the removable faceplate). This is the reason my title says I'm done with Pioneer products. I went and bought a SONY headunit the same day I sent this one back to Amazon and the SONY is working great, haven't had any trouble with it whatsoever and it sounds awesome with the new Polk Audio speakers I installed. Also, the wiring harness that came with the SONY headunit were much thicker, gave me the impression that it was much higher quality.
