We recently got a 98 Camry with the stock head unit (radio/cassette), and needed something better than an FM transmitter or cassette adapter to connect our digital devices. I looked at a few wire-in units to add an AUX port, but they either needed major rewiring or cost $40 or more. Replacing the entire head unit with something more modern made sense, and this Pioneer won out.
Installation was pretty easy, since the stock unit was also a single-DIN. I used a Metra cable set, and the wire colors mostly matched, with the few discrepancies easily explained by a search. I'm just using the stock 4-speaker setup, with no amp, so YMMV.
Initial setup is a little tedious, but the manual covers it pretty well. I do wish the default setting for tuning the radio was "seek", not manual, but that's easily fixed. The illumination is good, but I wish the light level could be tied to the dash dimmer. Sound quality seems good so far, though I have yet to try a CD (I mostly wanted the option, but almost all our music is on iPods or Android phones, and I'd be more likely to use a USB drive than burn a CD of MP3s). I haven't played with the Mixtrax options, and don't plan to, but if that's your thing, go for it.
So, for ~$20 more than a basic CD unit, this offers custom illumination colors (a selling point for me - I didn't care for the standard red or blue on most I looked at. I have white text and aqua buttons right now, which are easy to see, but don't glare at night. Again YMMV, but being able to dial in color by RGB values is awesome). Ipod and Android integration are also strong selling points, though seeing a bluetooth connection at this price point would have been a plus.

After using a DEH 1500 for several years I figured it was time to upgrade. My main concerns were mp3 playback, price, ease of installation. This unit fits the bill in every requirement. Only drawback was the installation. I thought since my old unit was also a single din pioneer it would just be a matter of pulling the old one out and pluging in the new unit. Wrong! The plug-ins were different and it would not fit in the old carrier but all went well. Unit sounds great and mp3 player plays fine with the aux function. After playing with the illumination function for awhile I finally decided on all red for the time being. Haven't tried using the Mixtrax yet but will I'm sure. Only faults I have with it thus far is the button to eject the front off is hard to find. I have to feel for it everytime. Also the plug in receptor for the mp3 is hard to see even in the daylight and almost impossible at night. You will need to spend time learning the function of the buttons on the front because you sure cant read them. The manual does an adequate job of describing the various functions but may prove troublesome to some. Price wise I think this unit would be hard to beat. It produces excellent sound and even has a remote. Beats me why anyone needs one for a car stereo but obviously some like it.

Ok, so I ended up with this head unit against my choice. I actually wanted the top of the line pioneer DEH-80PRS because I had it in a previous vehicle that was totaled in a car accident, but I loved the receiver. So I ordered the second 80 from amazon, but when I wired everything up, the display was dead. Bummer. After about 3 hours of frustrating troubleshooting, I gave up. I was pissed off and just wanted music in my car so I drove down to cartoys and got this receiver, for it's the cheapest pioneer with USB connectivity.

I originally just got this as a temporary fix until I could return the damaged receiver to amazon, however it has really grown on me. I ended up just getting a refund for the other receiver and have been jamming with this one for the last 8 months.

Features: This deck is a basic entry-level receiver. It does have USB playback which was a must since I store all my music as digital files on a digital audio player(a fancy name for a device that is essentially the same thing as an ipod. Just bigger). It has a 5 band equalizer that gives you quite a bit of control over the tone of your music, but I have an issue with the frequency bands they chose. The highest treble control is 8Khz, and I wish it was higher like 10Khz or 12.5Khz. This caused problems for me, but I'll get into that later. It has 2 pre-outs for connecting separate amplifiers for either more power to the speakers or for a subwoofer, both of which I utilize. It has subwoofer control that works well, and variable crossover control which was a pleasant surprise in a deck at this level. It does have a mosfet amplifier built in that gives you the standard 14watts per channel, so you can drop this in and connect your speakers to it and you're good to go without too much hassle.

So I installed a subwoofer in my car and it sounded horrible, the amp was good sub was good (alpine type S). What was the deal? It was my crappy clarion cz 102 cd player that came went the car. Waited one week to get my package, install took me 20 mins. And BAM my music sounds great! So many features on this cd player like hpf, bass boost,Lpf, sub control, and so on. Plus it comes with a remote control. And I like that it plays the music through the apple cord for my iPod, my ken wood you need both iPod cable and aux. love my pioneer buy it you won't regret.
