5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny Wonder!
This player is really small, so it might not stack well with your other components.
The converted picture to 1080p is really amazing! (I don't feel like I need to get a Blue-Ray player...)

One small complain: to change mode from 4:3 to 16:9 you need to stop watching, go into the setup menu and do it.
It would be nice to have a button on the remote...

3.0 out of 5 stars play from USB flash drive, not from hard drive unless it is formatted with FAT32
Nice DVD player that plays DivX files from USB flash drive and DVDs including DVD+RWs. I have many divx/avi movies in hard drives but I can't play any of those unless I copied into flash drive. Two of those HDs are desktop HDs with its own AC but none of them played with this player. Other than that, I like both appearance and playback quality with HDMI. Doesn't heat up...

It would be nice to have a button on the remote to do this.
(We just finished watching a DVD that had been recorded in 4:3, so it looked squished on our HD TV until we figured out how to change that aspect ratio...)

I love the Pioneer DV-220V-K HDMI 1080p Upscaling DVD Player. The USB port is great I hook my External hard drive up to the USB and can watch all the movies that's on my External hard drive. Thank you so much. Because most player don't have a USB port. love the product and will be buying one more. If you like to down load movies but can't play them back because it come in DivX format. Please buy one and I'm sure you will love it as much as I do. Toni

The DV-220V-K is a great little machine in most respects. For simple commercial DVD's the HDMI upscale sound and picture quality are impressive, as good as my HD satelite reception which, in my humble opinion, is excellent. Menu options for tweaking sound and picture are adequate and the size of the machine (14" wide vs 17" wide for most DVD players) is appreciated. I have two complaints. As stated in another review, I wish the player had more picture size options. It offers 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios in the initial setup and two zoom levels, both adequate for inspecting Johnny Depp's nasal hair but not much else. I hate the letterbox effect and I would really like an incremental zoom control of some kind on the remote. I can't compensate with my TV controls because my TV will stretch but it won't zoom. My second complaint is the skimpy operating manual. It tells you almost nothing about what effect the various menu contols will have so trial and error are the order of the day (be sure to set the picture resolution to the highest your TV can handle). In conclusion, I have to say that this player is far better in almost every respect than my previous purchase which was a Samsung F-1080 (big disappointment) and the price is better than right.

4.0 out of 5 stars so far so good, March 11, 2010

Just received this yesterday, 03/10/10, and it has played avi files on DVD-R and a flash drive. I will update in a few weeks. But so far so good. Picture with HDMI upconversion with a store bought DVD is near Blu-ray. The picture with a DVD-R with a burned movie on it is decent quality.

Over a month later, and it continues to be an awesome DVD player. Knock on wood! Seriously thinking of ordering another one for the bedroom.

The only problem is the zoom feature. I wish there was a fit to screen mode. When you hit zoom on this remote is zooms in too much. So you have to mess with your TV remove and other remotes to find the perfect median.

Doesn't heat up like Yamaha DVD-S1800BL 1080p Upconverting DVD SACD Player that I returned earlier. Very sleek and light. Remote control comes with "eject" button (in case if you care that button as I do). It also plays jpg files from SDHD card (use with Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5W) but not mov files from camera and camcorder.

Update 12/30/09: I can play avi and jpeg files from HDDs if that is formatted with FAT32. Partitioned HDDs cannot play with this player, i.e. HDD partitioned with NTSF and FAT32.

Edit: I got only 480p with this player while the same HDMI and the same DVD got 1080p with Samsung DVD-1080P9 1080p Upconverting DVD Player. :(

Arrived quick and worked right out of the box. Has all the features I needed for a good price. Compatibility was a huge issue. I needed it to play .jpg slideshows, .avi collections and anything DivX. As long as it holds up to the test of time I will be incredibly grateful.

I had a previous Pioneer DVD player that played DivX files. The Philips player I had previously had trouble playing videos without a slight stutter and the Pioneers seem fine. This player is also great and much smaller so it fits fine on my daughter's bookshelf.

It's a good dvd player. never had any issue. But dvd players will be outdated soon and blue ray players will be reality. It's a good dvd player but I would advise to go for blue ray player as they have become cheaper now.
