Loud Running Noise & v.s. 563 Pioneer, May 31, 2006
This review is from: Pioneer DV-588A-S Progressive Scan DVD with Universal playback DVD Audio SACD DIVX MP3
When I first got it home, I noticed that there is a loud running noise that comes over soft passages in various songs. Also in comparison with the Pioneer 563A(which I switched out and in with the 588A), it has a less defined/clear sound on super audio CDs likely due to the downconversion of DSD to PCM. I would recommend either the Pioneer 563 or a different DVD player that doesn't downconvert.

best dvd plater ever released by pioneer for under 200 in the USA, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer DV-588A-S Progressive Scan DVD with Universal playback DVD Audio SACD DIVX MP3
this unit rocked once you get past the fact it slow to start up but besides that is a wonderful player which can handle almost everything thrown at it
the only model that was better is the 2006 DV-696av however it was sadly withheld from the North american market for only a reason Pioneer knows
and the 696av simply rocks and blows away the dv-490av as I own the Dv696av now and did own the 490av but returned it
