Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Whether you're shopping for your first DVD player, or a second one for the bedroom or den, Pioneer's ultra-slim DV-270-S offers outstanding performance and value. It plays DVDs and CDs flawlessly, as well as recordable CDs and DVDs. Unlike some other budget models, the DV-270-S lets you play MP3 and WMA audio CDs without wrestling with a clumsy interface Ñ an on-screen menu enables easy navigation and song selection from the player's remote control or front panel.

The DV-270-S is a smart alternative to those mystery-brand players that are disposable by design. Pioneer has been a leader in DVD technology from the beginning--you can count on years of glitch-free movie and music enjoyment. For maximum hookup compatibility, choose from three types of video jacks: composite (good), S-video (better), and component video (best).

Features:

  • Plays DVD-Video, DVD-R and DVD-RW, and Video CD
  • Plays CD, CD-R and CD-RW, and MP3 and WMA CD-R and CD-RW
  • Plays digital picture CDs (JPEG)
  • 54MHz/10-bit video D/A converter
  • Selectable interlaced/progressive-scan component video output (progressive scan requires an HD-compatible TV)
  • PureCinema de-interlacer with 3-2 pulldown processing
  • Coaxial digital output for Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM
  • Virtual Surround for enhanced sound from 2 speakers
  • Remote control
  • 1 set of A/V outputs (composite video, S-video, and 480i/480p component video)
  • 192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter
  • Audio signal-to-noise ratio 115 dB

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good value, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Pioneer DV270S Progressive Scan DVD Player with MP3 (Electronics)
For those that need a simple dvd player, this is a very good choice. It plays DVD, DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, VCD, JPEG CD's, and MP3/WMA. The outputs consist of the typical analog (Red, White, yellow cord), the better S-video (weird 5-pin circular hole), and the superior Component (Red, Green, Blue cord). The DVD player also comes with the digital audio DTS and Dolby Digital decoders allowing for those 5.1 and above sound systems; Not to mention the virtual surround option for those nasty cheap DVD's that only have 2.0 sound, which actually helps the sound created by recievers with the Neo:6 and Prologic II(x) options.

The only limitation to the product is the lack of a Toslink optical out. Yeah you are stuck with a coaxial, but honestly, quality doesn't change with the optical cables. You might even be better off as toslink connectors are reported to be delicate, but it is still a limiting factor.

As far as system menus go, I enjoy the ease of use this one particularly offers. Those of us that are picky enjoy the ability to tweak the image to our liking, as well as changing the sound to hear dialogue better.

In our living room, we have gone through DVD players left and right for skipping problems, or complete failure to recognize any DVD, but the Pioneer DV-270 in my room has gone strong for almost two years. In short, the player prooves to be a good value with all the necessities, and no problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plays all kinds of discs!, November 2, 2007

This review is from: Pioneer DV270S Progressive Scan DVD Player with MP3 (Electronics)
We bought one of these about two years ago, and my wife loves it because it plays all her Chinese and Korean VCDs, as well as more common DVDs.
We've bought other DVD players for our bedroom, but none of them play the wide variety of formats that this one does.
