This player utilizes 10-bit/27 MHz video D/A conversion to provide rapid processing of the video signal with less signal loss, ensuring maximum image resolution and images free of artifacts, while a 480-progressive signal output provides 480-line progressive (non-interlaced) full frame resolution performance to compatible 480-p capable displays. The result is a more filmlike image, with enhanced brightness, contrast, color resolution, and fidelity. As DVDs are mastered in 480-p, you can enjoy the flicker-free images the movies are engineered with.
Component-video outputs, when connected to televisions equipped with compatible inputs, provide the highest level of video signal transfer quality available today. By dividing the video signal into component elements, component-video outputs deliver a remarkable improvement in picture detail at maximum resolution, with unmatched color purity and edge detail. Color blooming and "hanging dots" are eliminated, along with other NTSC artifacts.
Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound compatibility delivers all the incredible sound that Hollywood can put on a DVD to a receiver equipped with a Dolby Digital decoder. Dolby Digital provides six separate discrete audio channels: left, right and center front, right and left surround, and a low frequency subwoofer channel as a listener option. Dolby Digital is the first perceptual coding scheme designed specifically to code multichannel digital audio. It divides sizes optimized with respect to the frequency selectivity of human hearing. This makes it possible to sharply filter coding noise and reduce data consumption while delivering dynamic theater-quality sound. Unlike Dolby Pro Logic surround, Dolby Digital channels are entirely discrete, with five full-frequency (20 Hz-20 KHz) channels and one low-frequency effects subwoofer (20-120 Hz) channel. DVD players with Dolby Digital capability are also compatible with Pro Logic surround and two-channel stereo systems.
The Dolby Digital and DTS optical and coaxial outputs, when connected to a receiver or amplifier with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder, bring you the phenomenal experience of video through five discrete full-range channels. Stunning sound effects and crystal-clear dialogue are the most notable results of this connectivity option.
Video black level control allows you to achieve remarkable contrast from your DVD player by allowing not only the NTSC standard black level, but delivering a "blacker-than-black" setting that produces incredible detail and vibrant colors.
The 96 kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter maximizes DVD and CD audio performance capability, providing smoother, less digitized transitions, and richer sonic texture.
Full-function remote control provides complete control of the unit from the comfort and convenience of your chair.

Versatile CD and DVD player,
By Matt C (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pioneer DVC603 DVD Player (Electronics)
I've had my Pioneer DVC603 connected for about a week now, and I'm quite happy with the quality and versatility of this unit. I replaced a broken sony ES CD changer and an older sony DVD player with this single unit. The pioneer sounds better than the old Sony ES CD player did for audio CDs, and looks great with DVDs.This is one of the few DVD changers on the market that will play CD-R and CD-RW discs. Since I have some musician friends, the ability to play homemade disks is essential. The only other changer that I know of with this capability is the Harman-Kardon 50. One of my favorite features of this player is the "CD Mode". I was afraid that with a combined CD/DVD unit, the player would start playing DVDs if you had a couple in the tray along with your audio CDs. When you select CD mode on this player, it automatically skips playback of DVDs that it finds. Way cool. The older sony DVD player had problems with audio lagging behind the video on some DVDs. I've tested with the Pioneer, and it maintains perfect audio/video sync with all the DVDs that I've tried so far.

Not a CD player,
By Mike (Hermosa Beach, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pioneer DVC603 DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased the DVC603 for two reasons, to be used as a DVD player and to replace/consolidate my Sony five disc CD player. After using it now for five months I'm now not so happy with my decision. Although it does a great job playing DVD's (as almost all DVD players now do) it does a poor job functioning as a CD player. If a CD has the slightest scratch it will skip and about 30% of the time when I put a CD into the player it has trouble reading it and opens back up again, very annoying. Finally, if your like me and you like to load five CD's, hit randon and let it go beware, it takes a long time to shuffle between CD's. Unfortunatley I had to go back into the garage, unbox the old CD player and bring it back into the house. Now I'm stuck with a five disk DVD player.

A great unit for the price,

This review is from: Pioneer DVC603 DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought one of these about 2 months ago. So far it works perfect. It will play anything, SVCD,VCD,DVD,CDR,CDRW, with no problems. It is quiet. The remote is a tad small and hard to read in the dark. Picture and sound quality is excellent.
