Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Pioneer DVR-225-S Pure Cinema Home DVD Recorder lets you build a home DVD collection. The sleek recorder plays DVD Video discs, DVD-R/-RW discs and CDs. It also displays JPEG files and plays MP3s.

The DVD player features progressive scan output. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The player provides Dolby Digital and virtual surround. Connect the unit to your home theatre for great sound. In addition to standard composite a/v outputs, you can use the S-Video or component video out with newer TVs for superior image quality.

The unit also functions as a CD player, with program play, random play, skip and search functions. You can play standard audio CDs, as well as MP3 and WMA files, making it a truly versatile media player. The player includes a remote control.

If you're looking to explore the world of DVRs, the Pioneer DVR-225-S should make for an easy entry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer DVR-225-S DVD Recorder, September 5, 2005
This review is from: Pioneer DVR-225-S Pure Cinema Home DVD Recorder (Electronics)
This product is very easy to use, right out of the box. Controls are simple and in many ways it is superior to using a VCR. It's easier to look on a disc and see what was recorded, to go to any part of it, and the picture quality is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic DVD Recorder !, December 17, 2005
This review is from: Pioneer DVR-225-S Pure Cinema Home DVD Recorder (Electronics)
I just started to use this DVD recorder and it is simple to setup, the controls are easy to use and like a VCR, you are able to record up to 6 hrs. It's a great piece of equipment and worth the money. I believe the VCR in a near future it's going to be a thing of the past.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pioneer DVR-225-S Pure Cinema Home DVD Recorder (Electronics)
I bought mine in 2005 and used it a lot over the years in recording all my TV shows to watch later, recording as many as 3 shows a night during the peak fall/winter/spring seasons, sometimes even more. One thing that I love about this recorder is that it gives the option to write in the titles of any shows that you have set with the timer, or even to name them afterwards. It also gives a couple of chances in deleting titles so just in case you erase the wrong one you can easily bring it back.
Just last week it suffered a breakdown where two capacitors blew, which I found is is common to this model, but if you are handy enough it doesn't take a genius to repair it if this happens. The capacitors are easily identifiable by the way they bubbled at the top and I bought the capacitors online for a couple of bucks and soldered them right in. Though the shipping brought the total price to $7 I was able to repair the unit easily and it is working once again which was much, much cheaper than if I brought it in for repairs-if you can even find anybody to do it in the first place. So hopefully I will have as good of luck with it again for the next 6 years!
I just found another one here at Amazon and snapped it up right away so at least I will have a back-up for the years to come.
