5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer DVR-225-S DVD Recorder
This product is very easy to use, right out of the box. Controls are simple and in many ways it is superior to using a VCR. It's easier to look on a disc and see what was recorded, to go to any part of it, and the picture quality is superb.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked good until it broke
Bought this in late 1994 or early 1995. Paid a little extra thinking name brand would last longer. But I was wrong. I guess it gave me several years of good service, just be nice if things would last. I opened it up, 2 of the capacitors were bad on the power supply. I might even try to fix it myself. Nice when it works, but bad caps for the long haul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic DVD Recorder !, December 17, 2005

I just started to use this DVD recorder and it is simple to setup, the controls are easy to use and like a VCR, you are able to record up to 6 hrs. It's a great piece of equipment and worth the money. I believe the VCR in a near future it's going to be a thing of the past.

I bought mine in 2005 and used it a lot over the years in recording all my TV shows to watch later, recording as many as 3 shows a night during the peak fall/winter/spring seasons, sometimes even more. One thing that I love about this recorder is that it gives the option to write in the titles of any shows that you have set with the timer, or even to name them afterwards. It also gives a couple of chances in deleting titles so just in case you erase the wrong one you can easily bring it back.

Just last week it suffered a breakdown where two capacitors blew, which I found is is common to this model, but if you are handy enough it doesn't take a genius to repair it if this happens. The capacitors are easily identifiable by the way they bubbled at the top and I bought the capacitors online for a couple of bucks and soldered them right in. Though the shipping brought the total price to $7 I was able to repair the unit easily and it is working once again which was much, much cheaper than if I brought it in for repairs-if you can even find anybody to do it in the first place. So hopefully I will have as good of luck with it again for the next 6 years!

I just found another one here at Amazon and snapped it up right away so at least I will have a back-up for the years to come.

If you want to record DVD's that play in every player, then you need this Pioneer. Read the owner's manual, learn how the features work and you'll be very happy. My other experience was with a Samsung and believe me when I say there is no comparison.

Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer dvd recorder, August 27, 2005

This is the second Pioneer 225 recorder I purchased. Basicly for two reasons: 1. Unless I eject the dvd, this recorder will return to the place where I stopped watching a specific episode even after a day. 2. A button on the remote allows backing up in 15 second, 30 second, 1 minute, and 2 minutes. This is in addition to the reverse search button.
