They Break,
By Reticuli (Las Vegas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
The sound, fit, and function is perfect for DJing. Exceptionally tight bass that poo poos all over anything by Sony (700, V6/7506, 7509), Korg, or Ixos, and the mids and highs are nicely balanced. There's a slight (and I do mean slight) excess of bass, but it's in a way that lends itself to mixing and is never muddy and muffled. Etymotic's high end in-ear stuff obviously does better on the bass (as well as everywhere else) but that's a different beast. Unfortunately, the 1000's break. First thing to go is usually the slide joint. You'll notice they keep slipping on one side (left usually) and tightening the screw will eventually strip it. The solution is to superglue the sliders (open them up completely) then tape the outside with scotch tape, which is nearly invisible. A perfect solution, assuming you won't ever get to adjust the size again to anyone else's head. However, that's not the biggest problem. The plastic between the ball joint and the horseshoe shaped piece that contacts the driver housing will eventually crack and break completely. This usually occurs on the right side more, though by that time you'll see cracking on the left, too. It can happen out of nowhere one day and is catastrophic. For the price, this is totally unacceptable construction on Pioneer's part. They have been replacing them like gangbusters to people who have the problem, but you pay the shipping cost and there's no end to the number of headphones you'll go through. As far as I know, they haven't fixed it. Mine just went after only about 6 months. There are people on the Pioneer forum on their 5th one. They sound that good and work that well for DJing, but at this point I'm about ready to try the Senn 25. I've been to Numark hell and back about 11 times, and I don't want to start another cycle with a different product.

Yes - They Really Do Break,
By Kevin P. Rosinbum "Kevin Rosinbum 'ChickenTender" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
The reviewer before summed up these headphones and their shortcomings wonderfully so I simply want to add my voice to his comments. They DO BREAK; I guess I'm lucky in that mine lasted for just over a year. They sound FANTASTIC, the best I've used, but I've just written Pioneer to try and have them replaced. For $120 pair of phones I should be listening to these 10 years from now, not looking for gobs of tape and super glue just to listen to them only 1 year later. I havea feeling that if you reinforced that area with some tape they'd not break, or at least not for quite a while... kind of silly, but yeah, they sound GREAT.

Faults of this head phone,
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
i am a dj and i always baby my equipment. I have had 3 pairs of these head phones and I think I will finally stop buying this head phone because it isnt really sturdy. All 3 times the head phone seemed to break at the swivel joint after a couple of months of use. Dont get me wrong the quality of the head phones is superior in my opinion just the cheap plastic parts that seem to break at the same spots is what bothers me. So far ive invested about 450 dollars in 3 headphones and that is why i am going to look for another headphone

Excellent sound, mediocre construction,
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
-----EDIT BELOW-----
First off, I like these headphones enough to have had several pairs over the years despite their foibles. The main reason is the excellent sound. The highs are very clear but are never tinny, the low end is full and tight, never muddy, and mid range sounds including human voice and many instruments are well reproduced and have substantial body. The frequency response of these headphones is greater than that of many peoples hearing, so you can be sure the headphones will generate any sound you can pick up, that is they wont drop very hi or low frequency sounds. This frequency response coupled with a good efficiency (dB) makes for a superb listening experience; you'll be amazed at how much more of your music there is to hear. A handy small feature is that the cord is user replaceable, so no need to replace the headphones if the plug or cord is damaged. On the downside, they are made out of rather cheap feeling plastic which seems apt to snap under tension, though the padding is comfortable, and the folding and swiveling earpieces make various listening styles easy including DJing which they are largely made for. Additionally, I have found that these are uncomfortable after an hour or two of use, because they seem to compress your ears/head, that the tension in the band piece going over your head is too stiff. The pads of the earpieces themselves are soft and accommodate most ears well though and are resistant to sweat and stain. These are slightly heavy but only due to the quality/heft of the drivers. Overall, these are an excellent pair of headphones, and to me provide the highest quality of listening experience for my music, if not always the best comfort. I would recommend their purchase, and would suggest you buy an extended warranty through the vendor so you won't have to worry about the integrity of the plastic bits, as I had one pair brake after a couple years. ----EDIT: Now, my replacement pair has also broken, at the same spot as my other pair, and those of many other peoples, below the swivel&hinge, above the half circle that holds the ear piece. A frustrating shame, to have such flimsy plastic holding together such good sounding audio components. In fairness, these have broke after what is likely at least a thousand hours of use, but I will not be replacing them with this same model, but perhaps the HDJ-2000's, which enjoy an all metal construction.

Great headphones,

The Pros: Fantastic quality of sound. Very sturdy, reliable. Those who say they break easily, apparently have failed to understand how to and what for to use them. No, they are not you pillow. Not your seat cushion either. I've had them for about two years now and they look, feel and sound like new.
Very nice looking headphones, too. The Cons. Somewhat heavy, not very comfy (The Sennheiser HD555 are the most comfortable cans I've ever owned, but the Pioneers sound better). As it is common to all the closed type headphones, on rare occasions, when playing some abnormally low and powerful bass, the sound waves get trapped inside the cups and cause bad distortion. It happens very rarely, though. Overall excellent product.

After reading the reviews of other DJs on Amazon and asking around. I decided to try them for myself. So far I love them. The sound quality is GREAT. I don't have to turn up the volume to loud to hear the music. This is actually my second pair of headphones since the last ones I had lasted me for about 6 yrs. So a word of advice to other djs take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. Although most shows I do a wedding receptions with a ocasional highschool/middleschool function thrown in. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is starting out, or has been in the busniess for quite sometime.

This headset is so great, I wanted to do a video review... which I will, real soon and will post it on the youtube under the name username.
Ok, on with the review: Build Quality: (9/10) These are great quality headphones! The only problem I have is that the ear part twists and locks, and it feels like it can break easily, but it doesn't, when I use it. Not only does it look nice, it is nice. Audio Quality: (9/10) I almost want to give it a 10 out of 10, but it does have some flaws. When I have my earphones on, I can't hear anything going on around me, which is good and bad, depending on the situation. It's not that. The thing that is bad is the audio leakage. What I hear, other people hear it, too. Other than that, the bass and treble and everything in between is great! Bass is bumping! Voice is clear! I can even hear the acoustic guitar struming, which I never heard before. It has that squeak sound. Anyways, great new experience! Comfort: (7/10) It goes around the head nice, but it does get annoying, but you do get used to it, and it does slip off your head easily. These are both good and bad depending on the situation, but bad for the most part. Other than that, it fits comfortable around the ears. Overall: (9/10) This is a solid product. Great sound. Great sound quality. Great product. It's just great. I never had any problems. I did read some issues on here, but I never ran into them. I'm not rough with my item. I don't slam them on my ears nor do I drag or pull them off abruptly. They're headphones, any headphone will break if you abuse them. If you treat them as they are, they will last and will be nice to you, too. I totally love these and you should definitely give them a try. If you are a mid-level audiophile, they're definitely for you. If you want high end audio, give them a try. They're still great! Extra: I have been using these headphones for 3 weeks in a row with all my songs that takes advantage of bass and treble and vocals. I listened to online radio stream. I listen to youtube audio. I did as much as I can and used them with every type of genre of music and these things performed well. I really wanted to test them out before I did a review. I didn't want to write with my first impressions. These are expensive headphones and if you buy them, you SHOULD know how they fair. They fair well, quit well. I would definitely recommend them.

THEY BREAK!!,
By
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
Great sound, great looking and comfortable.. but they will break. So intend to buy them once a year. Like the Sonys, the plastic piece that holds the earphone on to the headset is cheap and cracks, then eventually splits in two. It's the most strained part on the headphone because it is constantly being pressured by taking them on and off. If they just use a tougher material, like aluminum, titanium or something it would solve the problem and they would be useable for a long time. I think it's the manufacturer's way to consistently get DJs to buy them again and again. I have a broken pair in front of me and am about to do battle with Pioneer to get a replacement.

REALLY NICE BUT LACK OF SOMETHING,
By
This review is from: Pioneer HDJ-1000 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
Well, hello to you, that must looking for the best quality-price relationship. When I met the Pioneer headphones I discovered a new dimenshion, the best part of it was the mono-stereo one ear two listening function depending on the mixing device, that really allows you to listen one track in one ear and the second comming up in your second ear, perfect function, i really loved that function when mixing........so bueautifull!!! but there is a but, a year and a half after buying, I suppose because of the folding, which is nice, appart of the problem I had, one of the headpones went off (IT EBCAME A MONO HEADPHONE WHICH IS NOT THE REAL JOB!!!! CAREFULL 1 YEAR WORK!!!), and really difficult to bring it back (I WORKED HARD ON IT BUT.....I LOST THE REAL GOOD SOUND QUALITY THAT IT HAD ON THE BEGINING). The other NO against thesse pioneer headphons is that they seem, at firt eye quiet comfortable, but, after tasting, not that much, you can use them nicelly for half an hour, after that you can sense some tierdness on you ears. I had a Technics rpdj1100 (which broke down after 3 years of use, that's why I tryed the pinoeers) and finally I went back to the rpdj 1200. I am very sory for pioneer, but the technics, even whithout the 2 songs listening option, are much more comfortable and reliable, the rpdj1200 are still standing and going. I DO NOT want to do a bad propaganra to pinoneer, I would recomend, but must take care of them. I hope this review can help you!!!! cheers and enjoy. Really good sound quallity, lack of comfort and relyability.
