5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Plasma, November 25, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv from a local dealer here in Ohio. I have to say, this is my 3rd plasma, and it's the best I've ever owned. Incredible value for the money. I paid almost this much for a 50" nec in february, and this thing is 60" and so much better as far as picture quality, blacks, colors, no image retention (which for non-tech readers, is the precursor to burn-in, which is a permanent image scarring on the tv). I have HD from Time Warner and it looks like you're looking out a window. Our main seating area is about 8-10' from the screen. It has a 15 pin Dsub connector for connecting a computer. I have my PC connected to it, and it is awesome to surf the web at 60" of screen. Coupled with a Gyration mouse and keyboard, this is the ultimate computer monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lexus of HDTVs, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I've had this 60" set for a week now, and it impresses in every way. First and foremost, the picture quality is 100 out of 100; Pioneer really is ahead of every other plasma manufacturer, Panasonic included (although they're close). The colors are natural, and even the standard def channels look excellent. The appearance, with the shiny black bezel, is fitting for a luxury brand. It also sets off the picture in a way silver bezels cannot. There are enough HDMI and component plugs to keep the set viable for 15+ years. The speaker bar at the bottom sounds excellent. Everything about the construction and features is first rate. If Lexus put their name on a TV, this would be it.

This has been available for about 7 months, and is in the last `third' of its availability. This is good news in regards to price. Although some retailers still offer this at $6500, quality online dealers offer it at $4200-4500, an excellent deal, and unthinkable even 4 months ago. I'm not sure how much further they will realistically go.

The 2007 Pioneer sets are coming out in late summer, I think, and the big buzz is about 1080p (vs. 768p for this set). Expect a higher MSRP ($7500?), and limited initial availability. Also, I've seen the one current 50" 1080p Pioneer set at the store (a cool $8,000), and really, from 6-8 feet away, there is scant improvement over this set. You have to be right on top of it studying the picture to notice (and have a 1080p source like HD_DVD, and have the content shot/mastered in 1080p). Given the just-reduced price of this 60" plasma, if you're thinking of jumping in, now is actually a terrific time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Plasmas Money Can Buy, February 16, 2007
By
This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
If you are in the market for a flat screen TV, make sure that you don't buy on a whim and you take your time. Go out and sample what the market has to offer with your eyes and don't focus on labels or brand names. Let your sight and opinion do the shopping for you and then look at labels and product history afterwards. If you follow these instructions and just focus on the best flat screen television you can find, there is one word that will stand above the rest:

PIONEER.

When I first went shopping for a new television for the first time in 8 years, I knew that I wanted a plasma because of the better display of black levels versus LCDs (both technologies have their pros and cons). I enjoy watching TV most in the dark and I also like dark visuals more than bright ones (probably ones of the reasons why I love 'Batman Begins' so much). With the prices having dropped so much in the past year I felt like I would seriously be upgrading our main monitor in the near future and I did exactly as I instructed, just looking and taking in the picture on all the different models that are available to consumers today and after looking and looking and looking there was only one Plasma that truly stood out from the rest. Pioneer has been making commercial Plasmas longer than most anyone else and they have proprietary technology that produces the most gorgeous picture possible. Whether the signal is 1080i, 720p, HD-DVD/Bluray, or standard DVDs, when you put it on a Pioneer plasma the picture is like watching TV again for the first time. Blacks are perfect, colors are exceptional, it truly is a joy to watch nearly anything on this piece of equipment.

With standard programming, the best bet is to just set the Plasma to the setting 'USER FULL' and just get used to widescreen as fast as possible. The picture doesn't look nearly as good as the HD level content, but it's still more than acceptable and doesn't ruin the experience.

Overall engineering of this Plasma is exceptional as well. The bezel on this is produced with a black glossy finish that simply looks exquisite, a perfect complement to nearly any decor.

The remote that comes with this unit isn't too bad but most people that buy something of this quality will probably use a universal remote anyhow. The remote isn't going to win any awards but it's nowhere near the hideous quality of the remotes that Panasonic ships with their televisions.

PROS: picture quality, black levels, casing, menus, overall quality

CONS: none

Some issues from other users have been related to a slight buzz emanating from the TV and while this is present, if you have the television on with any volume at all you won't hear it.

For LCD buyers, if you are looking for a TV that does bright colors better and something that is more energy efficient (Plasmas are hungry when it comes to power) you probably can look elsewhere, but if you enjoy movies and want a picture that is incredible no matter what the viewing angle or height, there simply is no match for a Pioneer plasma, the Rolls Royce of high end televisions on the market.

Yes, I LOVE my Pioneer Plasma, simply the best television money can buy.

***** HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60, July 21, 2007

This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
What can I say about it? It's absolutely outstanding. Unpacked it, hung it on the wall, plugged it up and it was absolutely perfect right out of the box. I researched all the latest technology after my [...]Mitsubishi HD rear projection blew up and after having it for several weeks now, this thing is the bomb. I was told that the plasmas get very hot and that hasn't happened. I was told that I'd be happier with a LCD but I just don't see how. The picture is perfect, the color is magnificent, the resolution in HD is wonderful and I don't have to continually fiddle with the screen configuration to view.

I was told that burn-in would be a concern and I am sensitive to this potential draw-back. So far, this is the only issue that would be of concern. Bottom line.... "I like it and would certainly suggest it for anyone that is looking for a high quality, high-end, super large screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best plasma TV available, June 15, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I have been researching for a new HD TV for a few months and trying to decide which technology is better for my needs. I've had a Sony rear projection wide screen 1080i TV for many years and it is time for me to upgrade to HDMI capable TV. I found that this plasma panel is the best in terms of price and picture quality. Blu Ray and HD DVD movies look absolutely amazing on this panel (especially Planet Earth). The build quality is top notch and it looks great! I would highly recommend this to anyone.

The Plasma experience:
There was a lot of research involved before making up my mind. After all the time invested, I decided to buy the Pioneer Plasma. Part of my research included the advice of a reputable repair shop owner. I had taken in the burnt TV that the Plasma replaced for repairs. The advice was "If you can afford the extra cost, buy Pioneer". It was the best decision thus far. This plasma as advertised has incredible colors and contrast. At the moment my regular cable signal is not the best out there, and still looks amazingly sharp. Playing regular CD quality just blows me away. I can wait to get HD Sat, I am sure I will have even better things to say then. Right now, everyone in the family is in love with the Plasma. Size was also the right choice; if you have the room, go for 60". It has already started to look small; I guess you get used to the size. Anyhow, the best decision I made and am very pleased with the performance so far.
The Amazon experience:
I have to give them 5 stars on this one. The price I bought this TV for could not be matched locally as much as I tried. The free supersaver delivery was fantastic. In fact (I am sure not many people do this) I had to call Amazon to have them slow down the estimated delivery. I wanted to take advantage of the price drop, so I ordered just before going on vacation. Based on the delivery date there was no problem. The very next day I received the confirmation delivery e-mail for less than a week to delivery. Fortunately, I called and was helped right away. Amazon contacted the delivery company and confirmed they would hold the TV until my return. The delivery called me the very next day after I came back from vacation and delivered the following day. The plasma was delivered, taken inside and set up. I am very pleased with the performance of Amazon. Subsequent purchases have also been delivered super fast. This is rare, especially if free delivery is involved. Hope my input will make your decision making process easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Plasma EVER????, December 21, 2007
I looked for a 57" or larger flat screen for over a year. All makes, brands etc. The only TV I have found to dat that outperforms the 6070, is Pioneers new 6010 and not by much. You have to really look for the difference. And if your doing that, your not enjoying the movie, program... And at $7000.00, the 6010 was just a little to pricy.

The pdp6070 is the best television I have ever seen at under $7500.00

I own the Pioneer 50" and just recently bought the 60" for my mother who is suffering from poor eye sight. I can't believe how good the picture quality is and there is basically no picture quality difference from the 50" to the 60". I am amazed by the picture from both TV's. The SD pictures are the best quailty out of any Plasma. The HD picture still wows me. Pioneer has it all together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer PDP-6070HD 60" PureVision Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
Purchased 2 of these on separate occasions for the business that I work for. Great picture quality, easy setup. One of my bosses uses it as a computer monitor and the other is a presentation screen that has a high quality aquarium simulator playing continuously when not in use. Great viewing from 15' or less. Set is VERY heavy, takes ~2 strong people to set up and maneuver it.
