5.0 out of 5 stars Ready For The Switch To Digital? If So, Look No Further!
If you're ready for the switch to digital, look no further than here! This machine is unbelievable! It definately has it all. It has a digital input, which is only useful with a CD player or other unit with a digital output. It has, thank heavens, a headphone jack with it's own volume control! It has a volume monitor for analog to digital recording which is VERY...

2.0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
I bought this unit ... two years ago. Mine has been in the shop for replacement of the Laser/Reader/Drawer assembly because it failed to read discs. This caused me to throw away at least 5 perfectly good CD-R's assuming they were faulty. The unit is doing the same thing again. That's the reason I'm shopping for a replacement. (It burned approximately 25 CD's before the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ready For The Switch To Digital? If So, Look No Further!, November 21, 1999

This review is from: Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder (Electronics)
If you're ready for the switch to digital, look no further than here! This machine is unbelievable! It definately has it all. It has a digital input, which is only useful with a CD player or other unit with a digital output. It has, thank heavens, a headphone jack with it's own volume control! It has a volume monitor for analog to digital recording which is VERY useful. It has a somewhat cluttered remote, but which is very convinient. It also has some interesting features, like the ability (when duplicating a CD using the digital input) to skip certain songs on the original CD that you don't want on the CD you are recording. This comes in VERY handy if you can't be sitting in front of the unit the entire time it is recording. And, of course, it is CD-RW compatible, which is also very nice. There is no reason NOT to buy this machine, especially for the price. Believe me, I have shopped around and have not found a better price anywhere else but here at amazon.com. BUY THIS RECORDER NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Soon to be standard in every home, August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder (Electronics)
The sturdy warhorse known as the analog cassette is about to become extinct, thanks to this easy-to-use, great sounding unit. Optical and coaxial inputs enable digital to digital reproduction from compatible CD players (the copy management system prevents you from copying your copy, however), and an analog input enables you to record from any CD player, tape deck or other analog source. This unit is CD-RW compatible, but note that many other CD players are not, so be careful with RWs.

All in all, a great tool for making high quality copies or archiving of analog material, before it deteriorates. This will replace cassette decks. Get one today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Meet my expectations, November 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder (Electronics)
Features that i like about this pioneer pd-r555rw: 1) FadeIn/FadeOut: gives you ability to start/stop recording songs in a smooth way. 2) AutoTrack: automatically gives you a trace # for different songs (if there is a silence period for 2 seconds before) 3) Pretty user friendly

There are a couple of problems i encountered: 1) I've bought some Memorex CD-R. Found out a couple of CD-R, after recorded, has problems(e.g: songs are "jumping"/skipping) I don't know if this is the CD problem or CD writer problem. I am going to try using other CD (e.g: TDK) to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why I chose it, November 15, 1999
By A Customer

I chose the Pioneer CD recorder because I believe it is much better than the Philips recorder. The Pioneer has great sound quality and put the first CD recorder out in 1994,so they have a little experience. Also the Pioneer is loaded with cool options and is user friendly. It is handy because you can make CD's with your favorite songs on them or move your cassette tapes to CD form.I don't plan on buying another CD again because I can usually find someone that has the CD that I want and borrow it and make a copy.Everyone should have one of these awesome machines.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is very good product without a doubt, July 1, 2002

Had Phillips CD recorder before and returned it to get this one.
Music quality wise, they are both good, but this one was much more easy to use. Plus it had optical in/out, coaxial digital in/out, and analog in/out. there are not too many recorders that provide all these inputs and outputs.
if you want perfect replications of your CDs, this is what you need. burning with computer cd writer, it converts the file to wav file and that reduces the music quality

(It burned approximately 25 CD's before the repair and about 35 since.)

The unit sounds good but, too many functions are available only from the remote (especially program playback) and I have serious doubts about reliability.

As I said in my title - CAVEAT EMPTOR - Buyer Beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST THING TO HIT THE AUDIO MARKET SINCE THE CD PLAYER!!!, October 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder (Electronics)
IF THERE IS ONE THING WE ALL HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT IS THIS ITEM, THE CD RECORDER, IS FINALLY HERE, ME AND ALL MY FRIENDS ALWAYS SAID WE CAN'T WAIT TILL THEY INVENT A CD RECORDER SO WE CAN MAKE OUR OWN CD'S AND PLAY THEM ON ANY CD PLAYER WE WISH TO. AND FINALLY WE GOT OUR WISH, I KNOW PHILLPS HAS A CD RECORDER WITH A DUAL TRAY BUT I THINK MORE PEOPLE CAN TRUST PIONEER TO MAKE A BETTER RECORDER, MY FRIEND HAS THE PHILLIPS UNIT AND SOMETIMES IT GOES ON THE BLINK IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, ALSO PIONEER HAS THE OPTION TO FADE THE MUSIC AND THE PHILLIPS DOSE NOT, I THINK PEOPLE WILL RATHER HAVE THE FADE, AND SOME SONGS ARE HARDER TO RECORD WITHOUT THE FADE. SO IT IS A GOOD THING TO HAVE, IN ALL THIS CD RECORDER IS MUCH BETTER THAN SONY'S OPTION OF THE MINI DISCS BEING THAT YOU CAN ONLY PLAY MINI DISCS ON A MINI DISC PLAYER AND THAT CAN BE A PAIN BUT THE CD WELL EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE CD PLAYER IN THERE HOME AND YOU CAN MAKE CD FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY WITHOUT ANY WORRY OF DO THEY HAVE A MINIDISC PLAYER CAUSE THE PIONEER MAKES CD'S THAT PLAY ON ANY STANDARD CD PLAYER, SO I'M SOLD AND I'M SURE YOU WILL BE TOO. BUY IT YOU WILL LOVE IT I PROMISE, AND THE RECORDABLE CD'S ARE CHEAPER THAN EVER YOU CAN EVEN GET A 10 PACK FOR ABOUT 20 BUCK'S, NOW THAT'S REALLY COOL.
