Video features
The PDV-LC20's active-matrix TFT (thin film matrix) screen delivers bright, highly detailed pictures with remarkable color resolution, purity, and detail. Anti-glare and anti-reflection coatings further ensure that the screen is viewable over a wide viewing angle.
A trio of Pioneer technologies work to maximize disc-read accuracy and error-correction capabilities: Viter-Bi RF Decoding, Accurate Digital Servo, and Automatic Gain Level Adjustment.
The player offers three picture modes (Cinema, Animation, Standard), DVD resume playback (after stop), bit rate display, and selectable background colors.
Audio features
For fully immersive sound at home, the player outputs both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround formats via a digital-audio bit stream (which is capable of passing a 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM signal when permitted by the disc author). Onboard stereo speakers provide convenient listening without headphones or home theater hookup.
A twin-wave laser pickup reads both standard and recordable CDs, though the pickup may not play some CD-Rs, depending on the condition of the discs and pickup.
Connections
Twin headphone jacks mean convenient listening for you and a travel partner, while an optical digital-audio output facilitates home theater hookup with a DTS/Dolby Digital surround receiver. A stereo analog audio output is also available using an included interconnect.
This cable also lets you hook the player up to a television using either composite-video or S-video transmission.
Other features
Format compatibility extends to DVD-Video, DVD-RW, video CD, audio CD, CD-R, and CD-RW. Condition Memory recalls setup conditions such as language, subtitle, aspect ratio, and playback mode for 15 discs; Last Memory recalls the last scene played and the setup conditions for five DVDs; auto power off conserves battery life; and a 32-key credit-card-style remote control grants hands-free operation.
The player includes a three-hour lithium battery, whose charge time is a mere 2.5 hours using a Quick Charge command. A trilingual onscreen display lets you configure the player in English, Spanish, and French. The warranty covers parts and labor for one year.

Great player -- Best electronics I've ever bought,
By "dawnsgreeter" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews

I just bought this item. It's the best piece of electronics I've ever bought. The whole thing is engineered very well. For example, instead of one headphone jack, there are two -- so that you and a friend can watch a DVD on a plane without disturbing others. Another example: unlike many other models, the LC20 can charge it's battery independently of the player -- so if you have a pair of batteries, you can charge both at the same time, or watch using one battery outside while the other one charges.Note also that unlike several other players, this model has the option of buying an extra-long extra battery, for 6.5 hours -- with the battery that comes with the player this is about 10 hours of DVDs.

Ultimately a great buy!!!!,

I just purchased a Pioneer LC-20 Portable DVD Player last week. I am very impressed with the quality of the screen. The picture is very crisp and clear. However, the sound quality I think could be better. But then again, many people use headphones and external speakers with this unit and others like it. This changes the sound and makes it better. Also, I thought the battery life was decent. I lasted about three and a half hours. There are a few options which I would recommend purchasing to make the money you spend on this player worth it. I would advise purchasing an extra battery pack. Also, you should purchase high quality headphones with noise reduction so if you're on the go, you can concentrate fully on the movie and you should purchase external speakers because the sound is not all that good. Finally, I would advise purchasing an S-video cable and an RF Modulator so you can hook the player up to your tv as a regular DVD player. Altogether this player is very good and I would highly recommend it to someone if they have the money to pay for it.

The best portable DVD player on the market,
By Yvette Iu (New York, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pioneer PDV-LC20 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
This is the best portable DVD currently. Forget the Panasonic, forget Sharp and even forget Sony. The Pioneer LC20 is the best around. The 7" LCD screen is crisp and sharp and more than good enough for the road. Having read a lot of reviews which gave the Panasonic machine superiority on the display, I can say that there in NO DIFFERENCE between the two. Frankly, you are not going to get HDTV quality viewing on the road anyway, are you? The second misconception is the battery life, Pioneer offers a 6.5 hour option over the Panasonic's 5 hours. The DVD player itself if exceptional, Pioneer is renowned for making quality DVD players and this shows on the portable. Excellent for hooking up to TV's in hotel rooms. The credit card remote control is user friendly and more portable than the Panasonic's. Also the Pioneer beats the outdated Sony, I am a Sony fan but Sony needs to come out with a new model, if it is to get one over Pioneer. Forget what the reviews say and save yourself some hassle. You wont go wrong with Pioneer
