Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

An impressive combination of brains and brawn, the MP3-friendly DEH-P740MP Premier in-dash CD player and integrated amplifier resembles a high-end musical instrument. It features a 6-channel amplifier with Pioneer's MOSFET50 power chip and two great equalizing tools: a 3-band parametric Easy EQ and Sound Focus EQ, which lets you shape your music to fit your vehicle, applying separate EQ to your front and rear speakers.

The amp pumps 22 watts per channel (50 watts peak) to your four main speakers (left/right front and back) and 70 watts to an optional subwoofer. MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor) amplifiers let amplifiers run more cleanly and efficiently, despite high current and high temperatures.

The receiver's flap face features a bright, easy-to-read Organic EL display. Pioneer introduced OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays to the world in 1999. OEL displays, featured in select Premier and Pioneer models, can be read from wide angles and even in bright sunlight. Since it's easier to read, it's easier to operate, and you can keep your eyes on the road. The display is a self-emitting device, so there's no need for backlighting, and it's efficient to operate, power-wise.

The player handles not merely audio CD, CD-R, and CD-RW, but also MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM/CD-RW (ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2 standard recordings), showing ID3 tags for artist and track names. Additionally, the player is compatible with CD Text data encoded in many commercial CDs. No CD Text on your favorites? The receiver lets you manually input titles for up to 48 discs, which the player will identify by name every time you load them.

The DEH-P740MP provides XM Satellite control (for use with an optional XM Satellite radio receiver), CD changer control, TV tuner control, a slim remote control, and Hi-Volt RCA preamplifier-outs (3 pair) so you can integrate it with outboard amplifiers for even higher power. The FM/AM tuner comes with 24 presets (18 FM, 6 AM) and Supertuner IIID technology. Improving on its Supertuner III technology, Pioneer's Supertuner IIID digital tuner features new digital FM/AM tuner circuitry for audibly better FM and AM sound. You'll get better stereo "imaging," less distortion, reduced multi-path noise (which is caused by a station's signal bouncing off things like tall buildings and arriving at your car from more than one direction), stronger signals overall (you can be farther from the transmitter and still get a strong signal), drift-free tuning, and increased dynamic range (so your music will have more depth to it and sound more like a CD).

Need to make a call while you're driving? It can't be helped sometimes. If and when, the DEH-P740MP's call-phone muting/attenuation feature will automatically mute or reduce the level of the stereo so you can have your conversation without further compromising safety by fumbling for the receiver's volume control while you're answering or dialing.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it!, December 17, 2002
This review is from: Pioneer Premier DEH-P740MP - Radio / CD / MP3 player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 4-channel - 50 Watts x 4 (Electronics)
I've always had Piooner stereos on my car, I think this is the fifth that I have. The sound is always perfect. From this model I specially like the subwoofer features, this gives great options for the sound. The display options are really cool, your passenger definitively will have something to say about this player, there are various displays 'movies'.

The PREMIER model comes MX (satellite radio) ready.

The output power is really good (200Watts), even without an amplifier you get a really decent sound with a pair of good speakers.

The detachable front is very nice, from this model I like the new feature of the pop-up volume knob, its cool and comfortable.

About the MP3 features, for me, this my first MP3-capable radio. I've ripped all my CD's at 192Kbps and the sound is excellent and fits more than 10 full albums on a single CD. I think that ripping at 128Kbps that is also good quality could give you more than 15. This is almost ten hours of music and about 200 songs!

I'd give this product 4.5 out of five: The only thing I dislike about it is that it is a little slow for reading MP3, starting an MP3 CD lasts about 6,7 seconds, I think this is too much time. And moving from one track to another or one folder to another takes another 5 seconds. Also, the manual says that CD-RW discs are slower than CD-R., but I didn't see the difference.

I can't compare with other MP3 radios, this is my first one. But I'm really happy with this player musically and visually is the best that I've had. I'll keep it for a long time!
