I bought this because the rest of my surround sound system is made up of Pioneer speakers and I wanted it to be complete. This is replacing my old 10" Jensen sub that was only 75 watts (although I replaced the driver with a 10" Pioneer and it sounded pretty good), and I figured it was time for an upgrade. Right out of the box I was a little bit down because it seemed a little bit lacking (it seemed just the same as my old Jensen, and I was expecting something much more)......but after fine tuning the volume control and experimenting with placement around the room I have been fairly impressed with it. I watched Lord of the Rings and wondered if my house was going to fall down! I don't think that it is worth the retail $800 (which I did not pay), but if you can get a deal for yourself it is a pretty descent sub.

Update: I have now had this sub for about 4 months, and let me tell you that it rocks! Apparently it just needed a break in period, because my initial disappointment is completely gone and has been replaced by jaw dropping awe. My wife complains about the entire house shaking if we are watching a movie (and I don't even have things turned up very loud). Just listening to the THX Deep Note feels like the couch is going to move across the room on its own!
