3.0 out of 5 stars Good. BUUUT!
I mean the speakers are good speaker's, considering the low price you're spending on them. But, I am a music buff & The only reason I drive in my car other than to work is to blast my music ( super loud) . So, I needed something that will crank and have extreme bass boost. The bass boost is good on these speaker's, so good that I keep them at 4; They exceeded what I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for the rear speakers of my Jeep, October 1, 2010

This review is from: Pioneer TS-A1683R 4-Way Speakers-6.5-Inch (Electronics)
I bought the Pioneer TS-A1683R speakers to replace the inoperable rear door premium stock Infinity Gold speakers on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

The way the premium sound system in the Jeep functions is the rear speakers play nothing but highs while the front speakers play the bass and mid-bass. The Pioneer TS-A1683R has great high range that makes the audio from the rear in the Jeep sound superb.

I cannot comment on the bass of these speakers because my Jeep's premium sound system does not allow bass to reach them.

Note: Although Crutchfield's website says these do not fit into the Jeep, they do. I used Scosche SAC656 1995-up Neon 5.25/6.5-Inch Jeep Speaker Adapter - Pair and with little modification they fit perfectly.

I gave these 5 stars because they work as designed in my Jeep.

Generally I look for the best product to suit my needs regardless of cost or price. This purchase was at time when I needed to watch my dollars. This product fit the requirements and the needs. Best value for 4 way 6½ rounds that I could find. Performance is beyond expectation.

I purchased these speakers for my 2000 Honda Prelude to replace some Polk audio garbage that the previous owner installed (poorly). These speakers WILL NOT fit as is. The Stock "basket" in the door itself needs to be cut out because these speakers have a fairly large magnet. Not a big deal takes about 5 minutes each side with a dremel and a cutting disk. However the 4 tabs around the outside of the speaker used for other mounting options need to be bent up to match the rest of the surround or they will not fit into the space available. Also the posts in the back that the wires attach to are mounted in an odd way. They also need to be bent inward towards each other, and then sealed with electrical tape so they don't ground out against the metal parts in the door. Let me add however these small actions were worth it (for me) for the sound these babies produce. I have a AVH-P4100DVD head unit which makes fine tuning sound a breeze, and a set of Kenwood 3 way 6X9's in the rear deck. The issue I had before with the speakers in the rear deck overpowering the front speakers has been resolved. For those of you who don't know. If your Prelude came with the Premium sound system, and you replace the Head unit, and or the rear speakers, you need to bypass the little black box thats on the underside of the rear deck. The stock system has microphones in the rear speakers that sense distortion and send a signal to this box so it can adjust the sound. If you do not bypass this box you stereo WILL sound muffled, and distorted.

Final thoughts if you have a 5th gen prelude and you want door speakers that will just drop in, look elsewhere. If you don't mind doing a little work for some fantastic sounding speakers look no farther. Also you will want a HU that has a graphic equalizer. These speakers Have great Lows, but the highs can be a little too bright.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Speakers!, February 5, 2012

These are definitely great speakers and all I can say for those who gave them a negative review is you probably have something hooked up wrong. I have these hooked up to a Pioneer DEH-3200UB head unit that puts out a nominal power handling of 22W x 4. And for being under powered they dont too bad at all.

But I know they have more potential then that so I will give an update after I get my amp hooked up.

Originally I was not going to purchase these speakers, but my friend who is very familiar with car audio highly recommended Pioneer products. Once I refined my searches to just Pioneer, I was still left with hundreds of choices. So, once again I looked to my friend for advice. He said I should get 4-way speakers, so that way I wouldn't miss out on any sounds. After making my selection the speakers arrived 2 days earlier than expected, which is always a good thing. The installation of the new speakers was so much easier than I thought it would be, and now that the speakers are in they perform amazingly. The sound quality is amazingly crisp, and rehearing songs with these speakers made me realize how GARBAGE my factory speakers actually were.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to noobs.....great speakers, November 15, 2011

This review is from: Pioneer TS-A1683R 4-Way Speakers-6.5-Inch (Electronics)
I bought a used Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2002 a couple a weeks ago and it had the factory speakers (15W a piece 4ohms) with the paper membrane (broken all around). So I decided to also change the CD player that was also standard, but still OK, it's just that I had an after-market Pioneer CD player and also wanted the speakers to be Pioneer. So I started to look for some Pioneer speakers that had 50W nominate power (that's the CD player nominate output power X4) and found these "babies". As some people said about the description, indeed it was wrong. Amazon ( said in the description that " included in the box" are the following: 3-way speakers, etc. Well, they are 4-way speakers, 50W nominate power, 350W peak power and 4ohms and the diameter size it's about 2mm smaller than the original "6 1/2 but that is not an issue at all because it doesn't have holes and you can adjust it perfectly. Now, after the installation of all 4 speakers, I finished the setup of the CD player (bass, high, mid, sub vol, etc.), I started to crank up the volume slowly....now the maximum volume of the CD player is 62.......I couldn't reach 60 because it was way too loud and unclear (and that's logic)but at 56-57, the sound is full of bass, rich in mid and high and quite a lot of power. You can almost feel the same way that a subwoofer vibes, only not that powerful. Overall, if you install these babies correctly and get them for the right CD receiver, you will be %110 satisfied like I am. Very important to match the ohms and the output power with the right speakers if you want to have quality and loud sound...recommend these with confident (even if they are made in China of course....) I would give 6 Stars for the price, quality and design.

I have 4 of these speakers wired to a Sony CDX-GT610Ui head unit via an Alpine F300 4 channel amplifier in my 1998 VW GTI hatchback. Originally, I had 2 of these speakers in the front and 2 Infinity Reference 6022i speakers in the back (which were slightly more expensive). Each of the 4 speakers was wired to one of the 4 channels of the amp. Well, I blew 1 of the Infinity speakers, which couldn't keep-up with the Pioneers (I wish I had bought 4 of them in the first place). So, I replaced the Infinity's with another set of Pioneers, and added a bazooka 8" tube subwoofer. Now, the front 2 channels feed my 4 Pioneer TS-A1683R 4-Way 6.5" Speakers (channel 1 has left front and rear, and channel 2 has right front and rear). The Bazooka sub is fed by channels 3 and 4, which are bridged to provide 150 watts of power, which is more than adequate. The system really sounds great. There is plenty of power to go around to all the speakers. The bazooka 8" sub provides great bass sound to complement the mids and highs from the Pioneers. And the Pioneers really have strong mids and highs - which are loud and clear. I have the LP crossover frequency on the amp for channels 3 and 4 set at about 120 Hz, and the HP crossover frequency on the amp for channels 1 and 2 set at about 100 Hz. These settings let the bazooka pound out the bass, and spare the pioneers the lows that might otherwise blow them to pieces - though I must admit that the Pioneers offer quite a bit of bass for 6.5" speakers. I just don't want to risk blowing them, and prefer to have them produce the sounds that they produce best. I have cranked the sound up to the point where it hurts my ears, and the bazooka handles the bass flawlessly, without distortion, and the pioneers do the same with the mids and highs. And I do like my to play my music loud. Thievery Corporation, Black-Eyed Peas, Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent, Whiz Khalifa - all sound fantastic. These Pioneer speakers continue to impress me with their sound quality and power.
