5.0 out of 5 stars Great Receiver. Ignore first reviewer's rating on the shipping.
Awesome receiver, lots of inputs. Simple and good autoconfiguration. It is able to convert all inputs to component. Don't use the HDMI but its there. I wish it had more than 3 S/PDIF ports but I'm an overly optical kinda person. Cheap receiver with all the features of higher priced ones. Lots of controls on front for the times when you've misplaced your remote (some...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mine was faulty and some other notes
Most annoying thing is that I hooked up through HDMI for 2 of my components however this receiver requires you too also hook audio connections as well if using the HDMI (I used optical). What the hell is the deal with that? At first I thought that maybe if you do that then the receiver wont have to be on to have sound output to your TV or something but nope no sound if...

Lots of controls on front for the times when you've misplaced your remote (some people find this unattractive but personally like the buttons not covered up). No audio sync feature but it's not really a problem unless your projector or HDTV is slow. You can map component, coxial, and optical ports to any of the sources despite all of them having labels.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great receiver, with one caution, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This is a powerful, flexible, and easy to operate receiver, with one caution I will cover later. I purchased it to replace a still operating 5.1 receiver. Most of the receiver functions can be figured out without even referring to the well written manual. The learning remote was able operate all of my equipment with some reprogramming of its buttons after starting with the preprogrammed codes. The only thing the remote can't do is change the tone controls, but there are two tone control presets you can select remotely. My only **CAUTION** is with the remote. Make sure the remote control is asleep (The display on the remote is blank.) when you change the batteries. This takes a few seconds of inactivity. If the display is on, which means the remote is awake, the remote will forget all programming including all learned functions when you remove the battery. The remote at this point will only operate the receiver, and will have to be reprogrammed. Don't let this stop you from buying this great receiver. I would buy it again in a flash.

4.0 out of 5 stars First impressions, March 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
I have only had this for 4 weeks, so I have not tried out all of the possible combinations, but so far it meets all of my expectations and it lives up to the other reviews that I read on it before purchasing. This is my first true A/V receiver; I had an older Onkyo Amplifier that provided good service over 15 years. I also upgraded my speakers from 2 positions to 5 with front L/R, rear L/R and a center speaker. I had Fluance SV-10's with the Onkyo and added an AV-SC and two AV-BP2 speakers. The room is small enough that I do not need a subwoofer. The VSX-1016 can be configured to route the low frequencies to the two main speakers and you can choose to bi-amp those speakers if you do not want to use the 2nd Zone feature. The sound is phenomenal. I have not made the jump to a large flat screen yet, so I cannot evaluate the HDMI connections yet or any of the HD performance. CD and DVD performance is very good. After I have used it more, I will submit an update. Based on the performance for value I would recommend this to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, just wonderful, January 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
I connected this receiver last week, used polk rm6900 speakers. This receiver is really nice, the auto setup does a very decent job, barely had to make any additional tweaks. The receiver manual is clear, the remote has a lot of buttons but well explained in the manual. Plus pioneer has good customer service too..atleast I got a good response for a few questions I had...and the price I bought at AMAZON was a steal! $375

4.0 out of 5 stars MOST WELL ROUNDED RECEIVER, July 9, 2007

This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
After tinkering with the Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K for 2.5 weeks, I have to say I am impressed. If you want a well rounded receiver without having to spend an arm and a leg, this is probably the best bet. Rated as an 8.4 average user rating at CNet, this will definitely set and meet your audio needs.

Pros: Lots and lots of inputs (plus 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output 1.2), excellent user interface, great sound auto sound setup, beautiful sound (THX cert), and really aggressive looks.

Cons: May not be the most user-friendly receiver, HDMI output is video only, and HDMI output cannot be used as the primary output source.

Overall, considering the price, the bells and whistles, ease of use, reliability, sound quality, and dependability, this item deserves a 4 out of 5. Highly recommended for the price sensitive/audiophile/gadget enthusiast buyer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replacement of, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This product was purchased to complete a High Definition implementation.

I upgraded the DVD player, TV service and TV at the same time.

I thought the HDMI interface was to provide both Video and Audio, it appears that I was mistaken. There were other products I didn't purchase because they claimed only HDMI passthrough functionality. It wasn't until I read the owners manual that I found out that this is also true for the 2 HDMI ports on this receiver. All HD components require two cables to connect, HDMI for 1080I Video and optical/digital cable for audio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Receiver, January 3, 2007

I purchased this receiver to shift an also great Harmon Kardon out of my dedicated home theater room. I decided to get the 1016 over the 816 because of the overall better build quality and the HDMI. The HDMI is video pass-through only but my TV only has one HDMI input so the receiver gives me an easy switching option. I am thoroughly pleased with the features and sound of the Pioneer. It has more than enough power and the sound is very detailed and crisp. My only grip is that the receiver seems to be a bit longer in depth than most. Excellent buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer still has what it takes, April 5, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
I was trying to stay away from home theatre receivers but as things turned out I had to have one for Blu-Ray.For the money this is the best.I have no regrets about buying it.THX rated for under $500.00.What else can I say.Well it has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. This is great since my tv has only one HDMI input. It also has 2 fibre optic inputs and one fibre optic output. This is good news for my CD recorder and my PS3.Again for the money one cannot go wrong.

Maybe the remote is a little confusing but in time I am sure even I will figure it out.If you are on the fence about buying it,I am sure you will not be disapointed.Just don't compare it to the Pioneer Elite or the top of the line Denon because that would not be fair.Stay with the price point and you will like it.

ignore the other dude, he was rating the shipping not the product. It is a very very good product, very satisfied from a proffessional audiophile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome Receiver, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
Really a top notch product. I don't need to go into great detail here. It totally meets and exceeds expectations. Particularly, the auto calibration feature is very accurate, and blows the competition out of the water (which is why I settled on this unit). The only grip is that sound is NOT transferred through HDMI, requiring separate TOS-Link or coaxial cables. This really isn't that big of a deal, though.
