I purchased a brand new Pioneer Elite VSX-52 from Amazon/Crawford's Superstore in July of 2011. In March of 2012 the HDMI video stopped sending a signal to my TV. I contacted Pioneer and they told me to take it to an authorized repair center. A week later the repair center called to tell me that Pioneer would not honor their manufacture's warranty because neither Amazon or Crawford's is an authorized reseller. I petitioned Pioneer to review my claim and a week later the said their final decision was to not authorize the repair.

After two days of calling Crawford's Superstore and trying to speak with a "Mr. Murphy" who apparently doesn't have a phone number where you can leave a message and is always "out in the warehouse" I finally gave up trying to reach him as they have no interest in helping me now that the sale is complete. Nor does Amazon for that matter. After speaking with a very nice woman named, Nancy, she said that Amazon is not responsible for marketplace sales and was very sorry. Apparently, my situation doesn't fall under their "A to Z" coverage policy. She suggested I try calling Pioneer again.

So here I am several weeks later without a working receiver I paid almost $800 dollars for with no warranty coverage. For the record, I will never buy another Pioneer Electronics product ever again based on their warranty discrimination on a product that is supposed to be of higher quality than their regular product line, yet fails in less than a year. Nor will I purchase anything from Crawford's again because talking to them on the phone made it seem like I was calling the back of a cube truck, not a professional business that is interested in customer satisfaction. And while I cannot directly blame Amazon, I can certainly discourage people from falling into the same pitfall as me. So for your own sake, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITHOUT A WARRANTY through Amazon.

my home theater setup with this receiver includes the ff: samsung 46" lcd tv, samsung bd-c6800, apple tv2, directv sat receiver, jbl es series speakers (es90 as fronts, es25c as center, es30 as surrounds and es250pwch as my wireless sub). in addition, im also using the icontrolav2 app for ipad2 and iphone 4s...GOT THIS AWESOME RECEIVER IN BB FOR 715$ and i was so happy with it...the first thing that i noticed was the loose power cord connected at the back of this receiver. luckily, i have a spared power cord from my old tv with the same specs and fits really tight...(possible hazard with loose connection such as this one)

Upgrading from a very old pioneer receiver, this receiver does so many auto calibrations. After running the MDACC, the receiver's performance was really awesome...it took me a few days to get around and know the overwhelming parameters/settings/adjustments...i was able to program and consolidate all my remotes which includes the blu-ray player, the tv, the sat receiver and including the apple tv2 remote...the bad side though is on the remote, it is long and skinny and buttons are so compressed. it will be nice if pioneer makes it like a logitech harmony 1100 style and size...

The free app for ios devices is great. i was able to fully control this receiver on my ipad2 and iphones...even the interface is so neat. i really like the finger equalizer that allows me to customize and save my settings...coupled with the apple tv2, no need to go to my basement just to power it on so i could listen to the music files originating from my itunes library...

for extra info, the elite vsx-52 is the same as the pioneer vsx-1121. the 52s have black and gold interface while the 1121s have the black and white...

First, please be aware that anytime you purchase a Pioneer ELITE product online, it is not official and voids the manufaturer warranty. So, you need to factor in purchasing a Square Trade warranty online, which is a good warranty and shouldn't be more than $80. However, I took the chance on buying this receiver online and saved over $250 than if I'd purchased it in a store, as these AirPlay receivers don't usually go on sale. This saving total includes the price of my Square Trade warranty.

This ELITE is great and as reviewed by Sound and Vision Magazine and Home Theater Magazine (both online) say, this is the best receiver for under $1000 of 2011 . I consider myself to be very knowledgable of home theater and tech equipment, this reciever replaces my old Onkyo 703. Trust me when I say that the sound quality is excellent and is very warm to the ear. The adjustments that can be made using the settings easily make a difference and allow you to taylor sound to your liking. This receiver has all the options and connectivity you could want. If you actually read the manual, set up is pretty straight forward, but you must be careful. These networked receivers are complex machines and I've read many reviews on AVS Forum where user error led some to think they had a defective unit when they did not. Again, READ THE MANUAL.

The biggest feature to me was the iPone/iPad app called iControl AV2. it's available free in the Apple App Store. This app basically replaces a high end Harmony remote except it is tailored to your receiver. Using the separate set up app for the iPad made setting everything up very painless. The iControl AV2 app is very interactive when adjusting settings and is fun to use and show to friends.
