5.0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT album! January 3, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I heard it through the grapevine that The Maine released this album on their own after "creative differences" with their label. It sounded like your typical-storybook-non-happy-ending... of a band brought to relevance by a major label and the band rejecting the label's guidance once they got a little success under their belt. Needless to say, I was curious to investigate this new sound that turned off the label that took them from Tempe, Arizona teens to worldwide rockstars. This album is definitely different, but still exudes John's vocal sex appeal and lyrics that suck you in to a space that makes you feel safe. This album is young but mature. More rock than pop. If you listen to The Maine because they make music that inspires you to dance guilt free around your studio apartment in your underwear, then you will find this album just as appealing as past Maine albums - if not more. Conveniently titled, "Pioneer," It is a relief to find a band that is legitimately growing with their audience and creating a trend, rather than following it. This is an excellent album and success for The Maine. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to blast "Misery" while I shower.

I can not give an opinion because this is not the kind of music I like, but I can assure you that my daughter loves this band, the members and every song in this cd

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer The Maine CD July 18, 2012

I love this CD! Each and every one of these songs has been my favorite song at one point in time. It is some of The Maine's best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Climb Every Mountain March 31, 2012
Format:Audio CD
"Pioneer" finds The Maine pulling away from the major label treadmill after a single album, striking out as an indie once again and proving that they've lost nothing in the transition. If anything, they've gained a more stripped down sound, a jagged power-poprock that serves their roots proud. Like many bands in the post Nirvana age, they've mastered the soft/loud/soft dynamics of songcraft, but do so minus the dissonance and with zinger songs.

I've got a tough time picking a fave from this CD, as the whole thing packs a lot of meaty work. I love the guitars in "My Heroine," the breezy "While Listening to Rock and Roll" and the poignant "I'm Sorry." I like this a little less than Maroon 5 but a little more than The Fray. Like those bands, The Maine like anthemish rock, tight storytelling and a good hook. While they are hardly pioneers in the genre, "Pioneers" will likely seem pretty tasty for its no-friolls and basic sense of what makes a good rock-tune tick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible. March 31, 2012
By Kristen
Format:Audio CD
I wasn't really a fan of CSWS as I thought it sounded like every other pop-punk band out there. B&W was better, but Pioneer absolutely blew me away. The Maine has matured immensely with their alternative sound. They've steered away from the pop sound, which I personally love. I have not stopped listening to Pioneer since they released it, and it has become one of my all-time favorite albums. From beginning to end, this album is incredible. Absolutely incredible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing And True To Themselves January 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD
The Maine did a fantastic job with this record. One former reviewer said it was similar to their earlier works. This statement is hilarious and far from the truth. This sounds nothing like their beginning material. They have shown progression with each EP and album. I enjoy growing up with them. I hate it, and some of my fav bands are guilty of this, when bands produce the same record over and over; that caters to one age group. The Maine is coming into their own and are grateful for their fans. I love going to their shows and meeting the people behind the music. They've done a wonderful job and worked hard to let their music be heard. I support artists who stay true to themselves and don't fall to record label pressures that only allow "15 minutes of fame" or "One Hit Wonders".

I love the whole record but personal favs are: Identify, My Heroin, Misery, When I'm At Home, & Waiting For My Sun to Shine(+ the hidden song)
