Frankly, I had low expectations for this DVD but it's excellent! Being from the Seattle ("Jet City")area, I particularly love the detailed depiction of William Boeing and especially Tex Johnson's famous roll over Lake Washington in the prototype 707. Any aviation nut will love this!

This DVD traces the origins and development of two of the giants of aviation, William Boeing and Donald Douglas and tosses in other vignettes as well. It was a part of my education about the industry that was lacking. Boeing as it turns out had no interest or background in aviation as he grew to manhood involved in the timber business, while Douglas was obsessed with aviation from his teens.

Boeing was badly treated by the politics and politicians of the 1930's which is a story I did not know at all, while Douglas seemed to thrive during those turbulent times. One wonders if the Boeing people had been in a position to handle an order for their B-247 passenger liner from TWA, whether or not we would have ever seen the DC-3.

Probably so, but that and other intriguing issues are raised by this very even handed and entertaining look back at history.

This is a story of brave men who accomplished so much by putting their lives on the line. Donald Douglas and Wiliam Boeing belong to a unique group whose forsightedness gave us our world of today. Test pilot Tex Johnson rolling the Boeing 707 three times in low flight on its inaugural test is breathtaking and almost makes one cry. Recently we showed this film at the MacDill AFB Airfest 2010--people passing by stopped, stayed and watched. A captivating film.

Excellent DVD. Having grown up in Seattle and living in a Boeing employee family, I really enjoyed the history of Boeing and Douglas. There was so much I never knew. I especially enjoyed the old film footage and still photo shots. I highly recommend, especially for aviation buffs.

This is one of the best seen to date that conveys how government stuck it's nose in business's and how politicians look like the "Horses patu" during thier hearings. Somethings just never changes, all talk for the camera, and drive the chance talkers out of business. Boeing, Douglas, McDonnell, and Hughes were "Pull passes and kick a-- guys who got the job done " While the sheep gathered in the conner. None of these guys businesses got bailouts and their industry was national security. Just enjoy and get a different perspective.
