I have purchased items from Fungi Perfecti for years . The other review extols how great the mushrooms taste. They also sometimes have a second flush the reviewer didnt mention if he waited for that . As far as 100.00 a pound goes take a look at fresh PORCINI which run 50.00 a pound fresh and are similar to the taste and texture of these mushrooms.But check out the price for a 3 OZ Bottle of POrcini infused oil with one sq inch of the mushroom in oil for 3.49.The way you get great taste from these mushrooms is infuse them in oil.You can make a couple hundred dollars worth of pioppino infused oil excellent in risoto for 27.00 plus oil.SO it is all up to how you view it.There are no Porcini or Truffel kits ( you can buy spore infected truffel trees if you have several years to wait) so this is your best shot at a similar taste to Porcini or white truffels.
Try to make a Poppino kit for yourself( you can do it using the mushrooms and you will see why 27.00 is cheap).Fungi pefecti also uses the best strains they can develop from source mushrooms.Yes mushroom taste varies from diffent sources. That is why the poor review has bothered me. I do not do many reviews but this one called out for clarification.

These may have been the best tasting mushrooms that I have ever tasted. As advertised they are easy to grow.

My mushroom kit came with detailed instructions. I followed the instructions completely. The mushrooms didn't appear when the instructions said that they would so I called the customer service number. The staff was very friendly and told me to wait another week or so. A week later my mushrooms sprouted.

They were delicious! Unfortunately, the kit produced only enough for two omelets. I estimate that my harvest was about 4 ounces. Do the math - that comes out to over $100.00 per pound. I called the customer service line and told them of the small harvest and they said to put the product into my garden and MAYBE I'll get some more.

No mushroom is worth more than $100.00 per pound.
