Enchanting Sleeping Beauty and fun transcriptions,
By
This review is from: Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky: Aurora's Wedding (Audio CD)
This is taken from Stoky's final recordings. It was made for CBS in 1976. Even though Stoky already recorded some of the Sleeping Beauty segments for Decca, this one has twice as many scenes. The ones for Decca was barely a handful, so we should be thankful he recorded Aurora's Wedding. The playing is suberb and the sound is wonderful. So nice and natural. Stoky is impassioned and the strings glimmer with wonderful sonorities. The transciptions are short encore pieces that show Stoky's creativitiy when it comes to transcribing piano works for orchestra. Very enjoyable disc!
