4.0 out of 5 stars fun
My kids love this as much as I used to love 20 years back.First released in 1989 the basics of the game have changed little.
It introduced a focus on fitting randomly selected pipe pieces together to construct an elaborate, and hopefully high-scoring, pipeline. But it's the pipes that are really the main attraction. Playing out a little like you're micro-managing...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much like the original - revised
The only game for the Nintendo DS that I could find that was like the original pipes game. Some pieces are hard to decipher just due to the small size of the DS screen. But mostly disappointing because its not as playable, or enjoyable, as the original.

Review Update 11/4/09

After a several days of play I would kmodify my earlier comments:...

Playing out a little like you're micro-managing the plumbing of SimCity, the aim is to lay down a pipeline that allows the Flooze to flow unencumbered from its preset start piece to the final preset drain. Keep working with that Flooze though and you'll achieve a state of plumber's zen. It's all about learning to go with the flow, trying to make use of every piece of pipe you're given. And when it all suddenly slots in to place, the frustration is washed away, revealing a challenging puzzler that provides a decent sense of achievement. Have it on both the PSP and DS for each.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting Game!, January 18, 2009

I'm not big on games but this game is totally addicting. It's a wild and crazy game!

At first I had a hard time figuring it out but once I caught on it became exciting to play each new game. WOW!!! Who knew that these games could be so much fun.

I play with this more then my kids do. It's great for all ages but I would recommend this more so for an older child since you need to have great eye-hand coordination.

If you are looking for a fast pace challenging game them Pipe Mania is the game to have.

Great game. Once you start you can't put it down. Lot of fun and challenging at times. Lay the pipes down before the ooze leaks out and watch out for the attacks

Review Update 11/4/09

After a several days of play I would kmodify my earlier comments: There is a mode called "Classic" that is very much like to original Pipes version. You must unlock it by navigating through a few levels of play. I must be getting used to the screen, I don't find it as annoying as I did originally. Biggest complaint is that you can't save your progress. You must navigate to the level of play you left off at. I think a fairer review now would be 3-4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, April 3, 2009

This game is exactly what I hoped it would be.
(I had previously played a no-name version of this game)

There is a story line in the beginning, but I doesn't interrupt the gameplay.
I love the challenge of fitting the proper pieces in order to build the pipeline within the allotted time.

If you enjoy problem solving, this is definitely a fun game to play to kill time.
