Not bad, but lacking somewhat in "depth",
By Steven B. Nelson (Billings, Montana) - See all my reviews

I do enjoy this CD, but I feel that some hymns deserve more than this organist delivers. For example, "Holy Holy Holy" is a song that should have all the stops pulled out, and played loud and majestically (in my opinion, at least). I was very disappointed with the arrangement on this CD. However, "Joyful Joyful" was very well done. It sent shivers up my spine. The other hymns are rather subdued, but still very relaxing to listen to after a long hard day. All in all, I don't feel that I wasted my money.

Great music!,

If you like pipe organs, and love the great hymns of the faith, you should consider this CD. Some of my favorite hymns - All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name and Holy, Holy Holy. This is volume #1, but I don't see any other volumes available. But on the flip side - there is not enough bottom end. One should feel the 32' pipes! Most other pipe organ CD's will include some details on the organ that's being played, but there's no such info here. A small shot of the show-pipes, and no stop list. But don't let that stop you!

Since there isnt any other good hymn organ Cd's to choose from, this one is pretty good. If you are a fan of Virgil Fox or any other well known organist, you will feel empty. It is a good purchase though. Add it to your collection as a good hymn cd.

When compared to CD's like the Virgil Fox Legacy Volume III and Fred Swann's "Hymns on the Crystal Cathedral Organ", this CD is unfortunately rather boring. The organ is small, uninteresting, and wasn't even worth including a stop list for, it seems. The playing is rather sterile also, not adding modulations, mutations, or registration changes where Virgil or Swann would have been going to town. Overall, worth a listen, but not the purchase.
