5.0 out of 5 stars Spillane in full flight !!
A very good CD, purchsed on the back of the above reviews.

There are some classic Spillane numbers on here. Shifting Sands and Undertow (the first two tracks) get things off to a fast start that hears Davy's magic pipes trading places with fast guitar licks and great sax sounds care of superb session support. It's everything you want to hear.

The whole album...

The whole album "gels" well, with a complement of quick up-tempo songs and smooth melodies. I'm not too sure about the diggerido (track 4), but it is the only flaw in a classic Spillane disc.

Although I give it 5 stars, I am sure that there is better to come. This album touches genius in places, but remains just a very good effort. Something is not quite there, although I can't fault it out of 5. I guess nineteen out of twenty would be a better score.

Davy certainly performs at his best on the fast reels & jigs, accompanied by a fast guitar & alto sax. Let's see an album of him "flat out", at his best on the edge, classic irish 33 1/3 melodies played at 78 rpm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Davy Spillane has done it again!!, March 21, 2000
This review is from: Pipedreams (Audio CD)
I didn't think he could get any better than the previous releases. Yet I am pleasantly surprised with each song on this CD. The effort as a whole is extraordinary. Taking the lucky listener on an unbelievable journey. He's absolutely amazing. His pipes are perfectly complimented with clear, driving lead guitar and bass, keyboards, synthesized strings, and Keith Donald's outstanding saxophone style riding the flawless drum work. I've about worn out my favorite track, "Midnight Walker". This is one of those ethereal pieces that caress your heart like a tender lover and leave you simply breathless. Wonderful work, Davy. You're still my fave!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite irish music from the master of the pipes, July 11, 1999

I've purchased all of Davy's albums, but nothing comes close to this masterpiece crafted by the master of the pipes himself. Gut wrenching, in yer face blend of trad and modern irish music, NOONE can shake a stick at the curly-haired irish piper. With Shorelines soothing away your worries and Midnight Walker pounding through your soul. BUY THIS CD! Trust me, I've got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awe-inspiring., June 17, 1998

If you have no other music by Davy, buy this. If it doesn't move you, check your pulse. You may have died. Here, the formula clicks. The fast songs are light and feisty, played with spirit. The slow numbers will haunt you forever. I mean it.

Definitely on my top 10 CD's list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spillane rocks!, October 25, 1998

This is easily one of his best recordings. As he progresses from his earlier albums (Atlantic Bridge, Shadow Hunter) his music becomes more soothing and slightly less traditional Celtic. In this album, he has struck the perfect harmony of modern jazz and haunting Celtic sounds. A definite buy if you like good music.

You are going to need a box of tissues when you hear this one. Traditional Irish music at it's best. Davy does it again..Grab these CD's up because anything by Davy is imported and very hard to find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music, September 16, 2008

This CD is beautiful...however, what I was looking for was more of the pure pipe music, and less of other instruments. I was also hoping for more quiet, reflective pieces, and found that much of the music was quite perky. But, absolutely wonderful...can't really complain. I would, however, like to purchase one of his cd's that has more restful tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irish Uilleann Pipes at their best, February 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Pipedreams (Audio Cassette)
I found this album to be uplifting and calming. The Uilleann Pipes are a wonderful instrument and Davy Spillane realy knows how to make them sing. In particular I liked the haunting melody of "Midnight Walker" while some say the music sounds sad I think it is a wonderful piece of music with haunting notes and an everlasting melody which will remain with you where ever you are. Overall the album has a variety of moods and keytones that would suit any taste - especially a taste for Ireland.
