I can see how this is useful for traveling, but otherwise, I think there are cheaper products.

The product was performing great when it worked the first 2 weeks. Then, the springs that hold the battery in place began to lose tension and the batteries would come loose. Overall, the product has a cheap quality. It screams manufactured in China.

Do not buy! Cheap, cheap, cheap quality. We have returned 2 of these sterilizers both due to the battery springs loosing tension.

This Binky sanitizer is easy enough to use once you get the hang of it. The Pipila Pod uses UV Light to Zap the germs and Kooties in a similar manner to the UV Light Toothbrush sanitzers you may already own. Operation: You open the circular pod's brightly colored lid, stick the binkie in yuckie side down into the hole, push the top back down, wait for the light to say Binkie is being cleaned. A few minutes later, the light goes off and and Voila! Clean Binkie! Be aware it does NOT come with the 2 triple A batteries you need to install in order to get it up & running. My advice, do not use the old acid batteries typically marked "Heavy Duty" that are made of Zinc & Carbon. Buy AKALINE batteries instead so you don't have to worry about corrosion on the battery contacts since the Unit is a moist environment & likely to be kept in more humid conditions.

REVIEW UPDATED 9/7/12: After testing this out, we brought it to a Baby Shower and the Moms there all Oohed and Aaaahhed over the lastest baby Gizmo, passing it around and playing with it. It was a real attention grabber for sure! In the end, however, while we agreed it would make a terrific gift for Germophobe new Mom or Dad, we still preferred keeping a clean, sealed Binkie with us when we go out since this sanitzer does not exactly fit in a diaper bag well. It takes up too much space and just isn't easily handled when you're in some changing room at an airport or Shopping center. Some Moms also wondered if this items would make it through TSA at an Airport since flying with kids means having clean Binkies. This modern looking gadget is attracive and is cleverly designed and but we laughed a little at what a TSA agent might think of it's 'Space Age" as they passed it through. Ya have to admit, it looks like a BOMB!

Pros:
- small & portable
- uses battery power, so no outlet required
- uses UV rays, which are a safe way to sterilize, (i.e., does not use weird chemicals that you are uncomfortable putting on something that goes into your baby's mouth)
- easy to use; you just put a pacifier in and press it down.

Cons:
- small, but not that small. In a diaper bag, where space is a premium, I don't know if I'd be able to fit this with everything else.
- whenever I try and open the lid, I end up snapping off the battery pack, which is a design flaw, in my opinion
- you are supposed to rinse the pacifier off first, which means that you need to have a water source nearby. This can be a bottle of water, but still, when you're trying to use the pacifier quickly, you don't want to take that step.
- takes 3 minutes. Not a long time, but forever if you're trying to calm a crying infant.

Personally, I'll use this from time to time. But I'm not especially worried about germs; I'm the type to just pop the pacifier back in baby's mouth unless it's fallen on something really gross. This is most likely to be helpful at airports or public places when I really don't want to re-use it after it's fallen to the floor. But in that case, the water requirement and the time necessity still doesn't make it all that convenient. But if you really hate the idea of putting something in baby's mouth that hasn't been sterilized, this will do, especially when away from home.

I like having this gizmo. It takes two pushes to get the process to begin. When the light goes on, you just close the top and wait. I wish there was a way to show that the germs are actually gone. I just trust that it does what it is supposed to do. It takes up a bit of space in the diaper bag, (about 2 fists worth) but I do have room for it. It looks spacy. I wish it were made to close and throw it in the bag to let it work. I have to set it on a table or so while it is working. Mine has been around for about a year not w/o it breaking. I am glad to have it. It definately gets attention and people think I am a cool mom in the know about all of the latest baby gizmos. Ha! Now if only there were a gizmo to get my toddler to stop taking my infant's pacifier in the first place. Then, I would hardly need this.

This device is the perfect way to insure that your baby has a sterilized bobby at all times. I can't believe how handy this is for on the go. I am going to be purchasing another just so my wife and I each have one in our diaper bags in our cars.

This is hardly a required product for raising a baby. That said, it is kind of handy. It only sterilizes one binky at a time, at about 3 minutes. So you don't want just one binky if you are using this. It is small enough to be packed into a diaperbag. It would make an interesting baby shower gift.

I push down the button and the little light comes on. That means it's working, right? Well, I can't honestly be sure because there is no way to test whether the pacifier is steralized or not. What I do know, however, is steralization does not equal clean. A dirty pacifier can be put in this gizmo and come out just as dirty. So if there is dried milk or anything else on the pacifier, clean it first.

Regarding the steralizer's construction, it appears fairly simplistic, maybe even cheap. Plastic parts that just scream "easily broken" appear to constitute the entire device, but I could be wrong because I'm not going to waste time reverse engineering it.

It's peace of mind, nothing more.
