About the Author

Victor E. Cheer was born and reared in rural Upstate New York. At a tender young age his extended family relocated and he suddenly found himself a resident of the busy Upper West Side of Manhattan. There he was to explore a whole new world through the eyes of a child.

From early on, he was interested in nature, science and tinkering. His early childhood days had been filled with camping trips, weenie roasts, marshmallows toasted on twigs, hobo-popcorn, and an elaborate plan to create a machine that would explore the popcorn using recycled steam. Now he explored the trails of Central Park, learned the names of birds, and looked for worms in water puddles along the sidewalks. When winter came and it was time to hibernate, he turned to the kitchen to explore his culinary talents. There, amid puffs of white flour clouds, he created the tastiest, lightest blueberry pancakes known to his family and friends.

It wasn't long before he had taken up exploring the art of popcorn popping. If there had been an award for testing all the popcorn varieties available he certainly would have received it. The challenge of finding the correct oil temperature, the best popping pan, and the best variety of popcorn was one he couldn't resist. If he didn't eat the popcorn while watching a home video, he would creatively study each popped kernel to discover a wild animal shape or trigger a new inventing idea.

Inevitably Victor was dubbed "Mr. Pencil". He always had to carry one sharpened pencil, just in case, tucked behind his ear. He'd always kept his notebook filled with special words, lists, new recipes, drawings of inventions, and various unrelated topics to explore.

He recently confided that his next literary project would be a compilation of tasty campfire recipes. But before that book is published, he will personally supervise every taste test.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pippity - Poppity Popcorn Book., May 5, 2002
This review is from: The Pippity-Poppity Popcorn Book (Paperback)
Peppered with popcorn trivia and the only popcorn with pepper
recipes that I've ever palated, this book is tastier than popcorn with ketchup (a personal favorite - sounds awful - 'till you try it).

Well, the book isn't tasty, but these recipes, SURE ARE. Bacon,
sugar, walnuts, almonds, garlic, yogurt and gum drops are but a few of the ingredients that you'll encounter...in ways you never imagined possible, I'm sure (I know that *I* never did.)

Good times!

Under, "About the Author," Mr. Cheer says that he's working on a
compilation of campfire recipes and I'll be waiting with my mouth open, poised for consumption...'course...it could get dry in there...and,
I could get thirsty...but, I'm waiting, nevertheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate cookbooks., April 28, 2002
By
"donna1010" (Lyons, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Pippity-Poppity Popcorn Book (Paperback)
The Pippity-Poppity Popcorn Book supplies big pop for your bucks. You'll plan to stay home and watch a movie so you can try what seems a gazillion recipes (over 50). It is a perfectly imaginative, fun, rich resource of popcorn recipes that sound tasty and worth trying. My favorite is Beef-Jerky Popcorn - even have a spare jar of dried beef in the pantry.

I hate cookbooks, but this is one cookbook I am tickled to have on hand for those nights we want a movie and a bowl of popcorn and a gleam comes into my eye. Who would have thought Popcorn on a Shoestring would taste just right and have a perfect name? It's not just a cookbook; it's an entertaining gem, a great gift idea for teens, couples, hostess gifts, birthday gifts, even a 50th wedding anniversary gift for that couple to enjoy a more interesting NEXT 50 years... There's only one recipe that scares me in the Pippity-Poppity book - Tangy Popcorn. Don't even look.

Bring on the next project - the promise of campfire recipes already has me gathering my camping supplies, and I don't like to go camping either.
