Most young ones probably dream about going to the moon, becoming a princess in a far away land, sailing as captain on a pirate ship, and much more. However, at the bottom of these dreams what they always want to have is the safety of home, so youngsters will be pleased with this reassuring tale of a mother's love and what she will do to bring her son home should he go off on a fantastic adventure.

Eve Bunting has penned well over 100 books for children - do believe we've read a great many of them and enjoyed each one as they always entertain and teach a valuable lesson.

An abstract painter and children's book illustrator Jill Fortenberry creates charming and alarming (in the case of sea monsters) full color full-page illustrations to accompany this story of a small boy who wonders what his mother might do should he go off on a pirate ship.

I think this was the cutest book. It reads like a real conversation between a mother and son. The son keeps coming up with perilous or uncomfortable situations, and Mom calmly anticipates and provides a solution. The beautiful theme is that I will always be there for you , no matter what the situation. You are never lost or abandoned, and there will always be a way to put things the way we want. Lovely sentiment, a relaxing reinforcement to put any child at ease in our anxiety driven society. I love this book!

I LOVE this story. I got this book for my son. And I must say it reminds me of him so much. I think all mothers would enjoy this read with their son.

Great story with charming illustrations. Danny and his mom read a pirate book together. "What if I want to be a pirate and sail away on a pirate ship?" Mom would be sad, but will always be ready to rescue him and bring him home if he needs it, armed with magic spray that shrinks monsters and pirates. Definitely recommended.

(Note: I received a free advance reading copy of this book from the publisher at an American Library Association Annual Conference. I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Holiday House!)
