From Publishers Weekly

The high seas make for great adventure and red-hot passion as a beleaguered ship captain meets his match in the notorious scoundrel Red Robert. When Scottish lord Logan Haggerty is captured at sea, he is shocked to discover that Robert is a beautiful and fearless woman leading the boat of dutiful and deferential pirates. Red is wary of Logan but cannot deny the chemistry they have, though she refuses to let it interfere with her single-minded devotion to taking vengeance on the murderous con man who ruined her life. As disaster threatens, identities are finally unmasked, and Red and Logan seize the chance for passion. Drake (The Queen's Lady) constructs a well-drawn plot and provides plenty of sexual tension and romantic encounters as well as exotic scenery. (Nov.)

From Booklist

Hoping to make enough money to marry the girl he left behind in Virginia and regain the holding that was taken from his family back in Scotland, Logan Haggerty hopes his ship won’t be attacked by pirates in the Caribbean. Instead it’s attacked by the notorious pirate Red Robert. Taken prisoner, Logan is intrigued by his captor, especially after he discovers Red Robert is a woman in disguiise. Curiously, they have much in common. Both Logan and Bobbie’s families were murdered by the same man, Blair Colm, whose sadistic traits were put to good use under the aegis of William of Orange. They were both sent to the American colonies and sold as indentured servants. But Logan’s life has been good, while Bobbie’s is a misery. They remain at odds until they are shipwrecked. With wonderful romance, swashbuckling swordsmanship, and winning characters, Drake’s pirate adventure has it all. --Maria Hatton --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Heather Graham was born somewhere in Europe and kidnapped by gypsies when she was a small child. She went on to join the Romanian circus as a trapeze artist and lion tamer. When the circus came to South Florida, she stayed, discovering that she preferred to be a shark and gator trainer.

Not really.

Heather is the child of Scottish and Irish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, and moved to South Florida, where she has spent her life. (She has, at least, been to the Russian circus in Moscow, where she wished she was one of the incredibly talented and coordinated trapeze artists.) She majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write. Her first book was with Dell, and since then, she has written over one hundred and fifty novels and novellas including category, suspense, historical romance, vampire fiction, time travel, occult, horror, and Christmas family fare.

She is pleased to have been published in approximately twenty-five languages, and has had over seventy-five million books in print. She has been honored with awards from Walden Books, B. Dalton, Georgia Romance Writers, Affaire de Coeur, Romantic Times, the Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA and more. Heather has also become the proud recipient of the Silver Bullet from Thriller Writers. Heather has had books selected for the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild, and has been quoted, interviewed, or featured in such publications as The Nation, Redbook, Mystery Book Club, People and USA Today and appeared on many newscasts including Today, Entertainment Tonight and local television.

Heather loves travel and anything that has to do with the water, and is a certified scuba diver. She also loves ballroom dancing. Each year she hosts the Vampire Ball and Dinner theater at the RT convention raising money for the Pediatric Aids Society and in 2006 she hosted the first Writers for New Orleans Workshop to benefit the stricken Gulf region. She is also the founder of "The Slush Pile Players", presenting something that's almost like entertainment for various conferences and benefits. Married since high school graduation and the mother of five, her greatest love in life remains her family, but she also believes her career has been an incredible gift, and she is grateful every day to be doing something that she loves so very much for a living.

1.0 out of 5 stars So boring, I'm tired of falling asleep to it. 170 pages in, I give up., December 5, 2008

Alyce In Wonderland "The Looking Glass" (Over the hill or underland, or just behind a tree) - See all my reviews
Shannon Drake runs hot and cold. When she's good, she's very good. When she's cold, she's a total snore. Unfortunately, "The Pirate Bride" is definite nap material.

I generally love pirate romances... Lusty romance, sensual & energetic love scenes, lots of action and adventure... But this story has shown none of those characteristics. 170 pages, about half of the book, and there has been no spark.

The exaggerated coincidences Drake wrote into this story are eye- rollingly annoying. Example: H/H are washed to the shore of a deserted island during a storm. At the same time another ship happens to wreck and it's contents wash to the exact same location on the beach. What's in them? Men's and women's clothes and shoes, bedding, blankets, a magnifying glass [what a surprise, considering they had no easy way to start a fire until they found it], pots and pans, sugar and biscuits with no vermin, scented soap, towels, tools and nails for building a shelter, the list goes on as such... I'm surprised Drake didn't include a maid and butler.

The fact that this heroine character supposedly won over an entire crew and became known as a fierce legend of the sea is ridiculous. Every duel she's been in she has lost. She spends more time worrying about everyone taking regular baths and having the laundry washed than she does worrying over the condition of her ship. In fact, her crew has to nag her into seeing to the ship's necessary maintenance. The whole thing is like a bad joke. Real pirates would have used her up and tossed her overboard long ago.

I feel bad for the people who check this book out at the public library after I donate it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, June 13, 2009
Normally I don't like that pirate romance novels, but for whatever reason I saw this at the library and decided to give a chance. I'm really glad that I did.

This book was entertaining and full of action. I really liked both Bobbie and Logan. I even felt drawn in to the secondary characters which is not a common thing for me, but I really wanted to read more about Red Robert's crew.

I think it could have done with a little more romance, but this book is still something I would like to read again. This was my first Shannon Drake book and I plan on reading more from her. The Pirate Bride is a well written book.
