Book Description

May 1, 1998
Katherine Inskip's life is at a standstill: she is completely overworked, stressed-out and indifferent to love--not a great situation for a romance writer to find herself in. She desperately needs some R&R. A South Seas vacation--complete with sun and surf--sounds perfect. But relaxation is the last thing on the mind of the dashing owner of the island resort, and descendant of South Seas pirates.

More About the Author

The author of over 50 New York Times bestsellers, JAYNE ANN KRENTZ writes romantic-suspense, often with a psychic and paranormal twist, in three different worlds: Contemporary (as Jayne Ann Krentz), historical (as Amanda Quick) and futuristic (as Jayne Castle). Building on the success of her DREAMLIGHT TRILOGY in 2010, Jayne is now focused on writing the LOOKING GLASS TRILOGY. This series will follow the Quicksilver Mirror (a paranormal artifact) through all three of Jayne's worlds covering a time span of several hundred years.

The first LOOKING GLASS book, IN TOO DEEP, will feature Fallon Jones, a recurring character from Jayne's contemporary ARCANE SOCIETY series of novels.

When she's not writing, Jayne can be found at her favorite social networking site posting messages to her fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars My vacations are never this good!, April 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Pirate (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't know what book the rest of you guys were reading, but I LOVED this book! Jared and Kathryn were just hilarious together. Kathryn wasn't too hard-edged--she was stressed out! That was the whole point of the vacation that starts the whole plot moving forward. Jared pushes all her buttons and their "arguments" are pure romantic comedy. Kathryn de-stresses really quickly--like by day 2!--and then it's just romance and and lots of excitement with just enough sexy banter to keep me grinning. Sure, it's not a "deep" read, but I can't think of a better way to spend a couple of hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars IPromising opening, but this really doesn't deliver., July 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Pirate (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed early scenes with the heroine, but the plot really didn't develop. There seemed to be no reason for these two characters to get together other than that they were in the same place at the same time. The hero had appeal, but it was hard to really cheer on the heroine. In the dark moment of crisis, I didn't really care if it all ended. The heroine's concern seemed a bit petty so she didn't deserve to get the love of her life. All this said, it's not a terrible story if you like romance...but I was able to people watch, accept room service, and call home to check on the kids. A pleasant diversion, but not riveting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, May 4, 2000
This review is from: The Pirate (Mass Market Paperback)
"The Pirate" (book one of three, followed by "The Adventurer" and "The Cowboy") is a great short story. It was hilarious and witty, Krentz at her best.

The only thing some readers might find exasperating is that this is an older Krentz book, so the hero was a little too alpha male at times. There were a couple of scenes in the book where I mentally gritted my teeth at his behavior.

Nevertheless, this entire trilogy is excellent, guaranteed entertainment. Buy them all and read them in order!
