My wife is a pediatrician and this book has already become
a popular favorite in her waiting room. It puts several modern twists on the age-old childhood fantasy of becoming a pirate and does so in a very clever and engaging way.

Pirate Mom Rocks,

I've shared this wonderful book with a dozen of my students so far. They've all been completely engrossed and enchanted by the magical story and the entertaining drawings. The 7 year olds can read it on their own, and have been reading it aloud to my younger students. It's adorable to watch. It's been a huge hit, and most of the students have gone out to get copies of their own to enjoy at home.

Fun for Moms and Kids,
By Dynila (Austin Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pirate Mom (Step into Reading) (Paperback)
The MC's mom is hypnotized into believing she is a pirate (at her son's request) then the hypnotist has to run to meet his laboring wife at the hospital without snapping her out of it. Among the many events that they have to get through before they track down the magician is a PTA meeting. As a mom this book was worth it just for that scene.
It is not a super easy read, but not too hard. Solid early to mid first grade, the sentence structure is a bit more complex than in the lvl 1 & 2 books in the same series. Since the MC is a boy, my daughter didn't enjoy this one as much as I did, but we had a few laughs. Perfect book for a pirate-loving little boy.

Imaginative early reader book,
This review is from: Pirate Mom (Step into Reading) (Paperback)
My four year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed this early reader book. She thought it was silly and fun to see a mom become a pirate. She wanted to share this book so much that we purchased a copy for each of her preschool classmates. A book that can keep the young listener's attention as well as be a fun-to-read early reader book.

Our family loves "Pirate Mom"! The appeal of a Mom being a pirate and the role switches in the book is great reading for young children. We bought copies for all of our grandchildren and others in our family. It's fun to listen to the giggles and see the their smiles as they're reading "Pirate Mom", a book they can read themselves. As a retired elementary teacher I'd love to see it in all the schools!

Pirate fun for kids,
This review is from: Pirate Mom (Step into Reading) (Paperback)
Deborah Underwood's "Pirate Mom" is a hilarious romp about a boy who has to deal with his mom after she is hypnotized into thinking she is a pirate. The parent-child role reversal is sure to delight children, and the easy-to-read format builds a beginning reader's confidence. Highly recommended.

The story is fresh and unpredictable, the illustrations are amusing, and the tension builds until the Pete resolves the problem the grownups caused. Go, Pete!
