Editorial Reviews

Review

"Clever rhyming text in 'pirate speak' and colorful, digital gouache illustrations in muted tones create a standout concept book. . . . The facial expressions and body language of this duo are spot-on as they hop, jump, or dance, and the featured colors pop off the page. Children will pore over the small and large details in the artwork. This title inspires creative play, and is likely to be a treasure for years to come."—School Library Journal

PIRATE NAP is brilliant!! If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out on a delightful, amazing book.

The ryhme is clever and fun, with just the right amount of color-play for teaching toddlers colors.

PIRATE NAP encourages kids to have an imagination, too, as brothers race through the house pretending to be pirates and also pretend their little sister is a sea monster out to steal their treasure.

Sail away with a wonderful pirate story with the child in your life. If you haven't read PIRATE NAP yet, check it out. So cute.

Danna Smith and Valeria Petrone have done it again: this time two brothers pirate their way from the dreaded nap time and discover a treasure trove of fun. Avast! Too late they discover the purple monster from the sea who creeps up and steals their plunder...or tries. The lively rhythm of the text and the delightful illustrations will anchor young readers' attention and spur them to create pirate play of their own. My favorite part is when the boys are in the attic and find a wooden trunk--a treasure chest of course. The text reads, "Pirate's luck. The treasure's big. Yo, ho, ho! The pirates dig." And what does the older pirate take from all the treasures in the trunk? A book! Warms this writer's heart.

Books about pirates are always a hit and this one is no exception. A young boy and his brother are trying their best to escape nap time. These kids have awesome imaginations and use household objects for toys. This would make a great story time book. The illustrations are bright and bold. The length is perfect for short attention spans and is told in rhyme, making it fun to read aloud.

I bought Pirates Nap for my 4yrold Granddaughter and 5yr old great Granddaughter for Christmas. Their parents say it is there favorite book. My granddaughter took it to her preschool to share with her playmates. I love Dana Smiths books and will continue to buy them for my Grandkids.

As a former owner/operator of a Child Care facility I'm quite familiar with the reactions children have to the dreaded word "Naptime." Danna Smith's Pirate Nap leads children through a wonderful imaginative journey where even pirates fall asleep. As usual Danna's rhyming ability does a great job incorporating `more' to the story, in this case, colors splash through the pages, "Yellow treasures buried deep." The children I've given this book to love it. It's a read over and over book well worth the money. I highly recommend Pirate Nap to all who work with young children as well as parents.

"Pirate Nap" by Danna Smith is wonderful picture book that all young readers will enjoy. It's got pirates, colors, and tons of fun rhyme -Arrggg! No young pirate would want to set sail without it. A great read-a-loud that will help kids learn their colors while they keep turning pages.

I just received my copy of "Pirate Nap" today and my son, who is 4, absolutely loves it. One of the things that I like about Danna's books is that she sets up the rhyming in such a way that children can figure out the words by the illustrations and the story line (which is helping my son learn how to read in the process). I read one of Danna's other books, "Two at the Zoo", to my son's preschool classroom and I had all of the kids shouting out the numbers right along with the story! "Pirate Nap" is clever and fun and, in a direct quote from my son...... "Mommy, can you read it again? I like this book so much."
