5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Pirate Radio Hits, February 28, 2010

As my wife and I were watching the movie in our hotel room, I kept trying to name the tunes in the background. As a Californian in the 60's (Class of 1967) these were a lot of the songs I listened to on KRLA and others stations. I looked at the soundtrack, but there weren't all of the songs I remembered from the film. I found this 4 disc box set "more than enough" to keep me going. I put all 4 discs in my CD player at work and play them. I don't recognize the British non-top 40 but I still like the songs. I don't think I've skipped a song yet. Particularly hard to find for me has been In Crowd by Dobie Gray and I really hadn't heard Sandy Shaw sing Girl Don't Come since the 60's, but I knew the words. I got the real feel of the groups and the songs they did that weren't all Top 10. These were good songs but the competition for the top spot was great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the film soundtrack album, February 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 101 Pirate Radio Hits (Audio CD)
There are probably as many dud tracks as there are classics in this selection, but there are enough classics to make the set still worth getting. For people old enough to remember life as a teenager in the UK during the 60's, this collection is far more representative of the pirates' output than the film soundtrack discs - if material from The Beatles, Stones and Jimi Hendrix were included it would be perfect (copyright problems, no doubt). Expect a fair number of the tracks to be in mono - but they still sound better than the crackly AM used by the pirates. Make no mistake, most of these hits owe their success in the UK charts to the pirates.

I'm not sure how old the other review author is (only one review at this time), but this set has at least 50 songs I remember from growing up in the 60's. I'm buying it and just hope that the recording quality is high! Some great songs that you almost never hear on the oldies stations too.

After receiving the CD set: Great song sets but the recording quality is not even. Some of the songs sound like they were recorded off of old 33 1/3 albums. But I bought it at a good price and I love 80% of the songs. This is MUCH better than the album the movie studio put out. Many of the songs on there were remakes not originals. Lots of originals here.
