Book Description

February 1, 2006 Nonsuch Classics
From the legendary adventures of Robinson Crusoe to the tribulations and trials of C.S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower, the great characters of the sea-faring novel have long been etched into the national consciousness. One of the authors whose work stood on the prow amidst the first breaking waves of this genre was Captain Frederick Marryat. Based largely on personal experience of a long and highly decorated career in the Royal Navy, his work has an immediacy and authenticity that is hard to match. The Pirate & the Three Cutters is a collection of two of his novels, and two of the finest examples of tales that will delight the imagination.

I really enjoyed the first a previous book by the same author. I thought that if I just pushed through I would, in the end, enjoy this one as well. At 52% I decided it just wasn't worth it. I may come back and finish it at some point, but not now.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
I would recommend Mr Midshipman Easy if you're looking for a free kindle book from the same time period.

2.0 out of 5 stars Excited but disappointed., December 29, 2009
I am a new Kindle user and was excited that this Marryat book was avaialble. I was looking forward to being able to practice my navigation with an entertaining yarn. But the formatting was somehow flawed. It warps before the end of every line. Tiresome. I hope as I get more experience I will be able to fix it. For now I am just disappointed.
