5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking guidebook the most valuable tool on any young pirate hunter's next great adventure, June 5, 2007
By
Ahoy, mateys! Famed pirate hunter Captain William Lubber just will not rest until he has captured every last seafaring villain to wreak havoc on the open water. In PIRATEOLOGY: GUIDEBOOK AND MODEL SET, the companion to Dugald A. Steer's PIRATEOLOGY, the good captain employs (forces, rather) the help of one very bad pirate to better understand just how these wily buccaneers storm the seven seas.

Designed as a private journal brimming with the same fanciful art, historical trivia and hair-raising adventure that made the 'Ologies books bestsellers, every aspect of pirate life is carefully detailed in Lubber's handwritten notes and elaborate illustrations --- from instructions on how to sail (or, more importantly, seize) a ship and the ways captives are punished, to what the crew will typically eat, drink, wear and do to keep themselves entertained.

The antiquated maps, charts and secret code keys, as well as an intricate scale model of a typical pirate ship to build yourself, make this breathtaking guidebook the most valuable tool on any young pirate hunter's next great adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars pirateology guidebook and set, July 15, 2008

i gave this book as a gift to an 8-year-old boy, and he was absolutely thrilled. He marched right upstairs and assembled the pirate ship model, then came back within the hour to show it to his mom and me. It's a book AND a toy combined!

4.0 out of 5 stars More of a Model Than Book, November 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Sometimes I get so excited I fail to fully read the descriptions and reviews so maybe its better for my sake that this came out to simply be the model ship parts and very simple paperback guide than the actual "ology" book. Yes it is from the "ology" series but the focus should really be on the fact that it's primarily a model ship to build, the facade of the book/container in this image is a little misleading for I thought it was the full on Pirateology book as well as the model set (so I thought I was getting a deal and 1-Click bought away!) Either way, the model looks awesome in my cubicle, all of my co-workers so far couldn't even tell it was cardboard. If your a collector of pirate paraphernalia like me then its a must in your collection, if only to proudly display the ship you assembled and the facade to adorn whatever space desire.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun book and model set, September 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pirateology Guidebook and Model Set (Ologies) (Hardcover)
Bought this for my son and it was a neat surprise to have the model as part of the book. A little tricky for him to put together without assistance (age 9), but with a little help, we got it together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pirateology Guidebook, April 27, 2009

This review is from: Pirateology Guidebook and Model Set (Ologies) (Hardcover)
This was purchased for my son who is into (real) Pirate history, not the stuff that is going on now with the pirates (terrorists). He liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What boy doesn't like pirates?, April 16, 2009
With 4 boys, this was an eagerly awaited arrival in our household. I tuned out quickly and just flipped through pages looking at the cool set-up. The boys read every fine line, every corner and have probably memorized the book. A book WELL-READ in our house. We try only to buy books that are read more than once, and this certainly is one of them!

I purchased several Pirateology books as a gift for my husband, who thinks he was a pirate in a past life (LOL)! They were terrific, fun & beautifully done.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun book, March 25, 2009
This review is from: Pirateology Guidebook and Model Set (Ologies) (Hardcover)
My son is 4 and into pirates. This book is beautifully made and full of information. It's alittle old for him but he loves looking at the pictures and having us read the little stories and descriptions.
