Book Description

May 5, 2005
1837: the Victorian Era approaches and the golden age of piracy draws to a close. Worried that his pirates are getting bored with a life of winking at pretty native ladies, sitting about on tropical beaches, and trying to stick enough jellyfish together to make a bouncy castle, the Pirate Captain decides it's time they had an adventure. A chance encounter with the young Charles Darwin - embarked upon the voyage of discovery that will one day make him famous - leads the Captain and his rag-tag crew from the exotic Galapagos Islands to the fog filled streets of Victorian London, where they encounter grisly murder, vanishing ladies, a diabolical Bishop, the Elephant Man, and have an exciting trip to the zoo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for all ages, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Pirates! in An Adventure With Scientists (Paperback)
This book is a fun twist on the Pirate theme. Think of it as
Monty Pythons Pirates of the Caribbean.
Quick easy reading, the book moves along quickly and the footnotes add to the fun.
2 thumbs (Swords?) up!

5.0 out of 5 stars pirate adventures, November 14, 2007

Connor Bailey Pirates with Scientist mod 3 11/14/07

Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists is a book about these pirates who can't live without adventure. They love to eat ham and drink grog. This book is also about scientists, manpanzys, and elephant men.
My favorite part of this book would have to be in the beginning of the whole story. It has to be the funniest part of the book. The book opens up to all the pirates disputing over the most idiotic thing, HAM, its hilarious. They're fighting on how ham should be cooked so it tastes the best. They stop fighting because their rugged captain tells them to cease.
This by far is the funniest book I have ever read. The only thing is you have to understand pirate lingo to understand it. Trying to figure out what they're saying is half the fun. This book's humor is like Monty Python. It is also like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. This book will make you understand many pirates' points of view.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Much Humor Here., January 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pirates! in An Adventure With Scientists (Paperback)
I bought a double-sided copy of this book, along with the next in the series, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Ahab (Whaling). I read both, hoping the second would be better than this one, but was disappointed. There is almost no action, funny awkward situations or even inappropriate material that could bring a laugh. The characters in the story, especially the Captain, are mostly incompetent and dishonest, not very funny characteristics. Try Bored of the Rings or a George Carlin book, heck, even Dave Barry is funnier than these time-wasters.
