In case you only look at the number of stars and don't read the full text of the other reviews, this book does not include any of the climax of the film. I bought this book for my girl because she fell asleep during the end of the film and I wanted her to be able to find out what happened before the DVD came out. It annoys me greatly that Barnes & Noble has a 'special edition' with extra chapters in it, but they left out the entire resolution of the film from the standard edition.

Does Jack or Will get the girl? Does Davey Jones get what's coming to him? Are the pirates wiped out? You'll never know if you read this book.

My preteen son doesn't like to read, but loves Jack Sparrow. He's seen all the movies and was delighted to have a book to read for school that he's really in to.

I too was looking forward to getting the novelization for this book, but after having seen the movie and finding out how it ended there was NO WAY I was going to buy this book without that ending. However----I work next door to Barnes and Nobles and they have the complete version in a limited edition hardcover. It is pretty good. And---it has the complete story and explains some of the things you may have missed from the movie. I hope that someday Amazon will carry this edition and if they have it already then I guess I missed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, April 30, 2007
A Kid's Review

This Book is very good, compared to the book for Dead Man's Chest. To Let everyone know it DOES NOT give you the ending, it ends right when they're about to have the final fight (in the trailer Davy and Jack fighting, the whirlpool) that stuff is left out so there isn't really any spoilers but still a couple spoilers so be warned about that. It also has humor and action . Anyway this is a really great book I suggest you buy it savvy? and remember when in doubt, drink rum

Book Review 10/2/08

In general, the book provided much greater detail than the movie. I really enjoyed the more "vivid" description on "Jack Sparrow"! His sence of humor and interaction with others was hilarious.

You could almost feel the humidity and smell the salty air in Port Royal. My favorite scene is when Will willingly becomes the Captain of "The Flying Dutchman"! This was for me the most exciting scene because it in some way felt shocking.

In the end, good wins over evil as the East India Trading Company and Davey Jones himself are defeated.

Whether you agree with this pirate rrrrrrrrrrrr not, this book is a grrrrrreat read!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, December 15, 2009
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Paperback)

The worst novelization I have ever read...

I am a book collector and movie lover. As a result I often buy the novelization of movies I am particularly fond of. A few years back I was collecting the novelizations for Pirates of the Caribbean.

I bought both versions of the novelization for Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. One version was revised to tie in better with the sequels but in general they're relatively the same until the ending. And I had the novelization for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. But then I bought the novelization for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End...

I don't know where to begin. This novelization was so bad it almost prevented me from watching the film. The novel was released roughly a month before the film came out and I thought 'Wow! Great! I can find out what happens first just to find out if Jack lives or not!'

First the writing. Usually you get more detail with a novelization. But this time you don't. This time it's so vague it's as if someone lazily slapped the script's dialogue together into a poorly contrived book. There's almost no physical description, emotional detail, or characterization at all. It's sterile.

The one detail they give that adds depth to the character that isn't in the film is the novel tells us us that Jack was branded as a pirate for liberating a cargo of slaves. For stealing the 'cargo' he was branded as a slave. Jack's statement to this is the admirable 'I don't count people as cargo.' It actually adds a certain nobility to his character. I wish the scene was in the film but sadly it's not. That was actually the best part of the whole novel.

And now for the worst part. I guess Disney didn't want to reveal the ending in advance because the novel ends almost immediately after Calypso has abandoned the pirates to the East India Trading Company. It ends with Elizabeth shouting as they're about to battle 'We are the Pirates of the Carribean!'
I remember thinking That's it? That's how they end it? Another cliff hanger that seems to imply they're going to die at this stand off? It made me lose interest in seeing the film. That was the first time a book made me LOSE interest in seeing a film.

Fortunately when I did see the film the film's ending, to my pleasant surprise, was much more satisfying. It wasn't a great ending (poor Will) but it was at least an actual ending. When I buy a novel I don't buy a novel to be protected against film spoilers. I want the whole story. I'm paying for a full story, I should get the whole story.

In short Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's end is the worst novelization of a film script I have EVER read.
