4.0 out of 5 stars A 7th grader's review, hope it helps!
This book is just another great adventure with the famous Captain Jack Sparrow! To me, because I am a huge "Pirates" fan, it was a fun book to read. With the few full-colored pages of the movie, it help you see the new and old characters. It leaves you with enough info if you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want spoilers. It's something you could easily read though...

3.0 out of 5 stars An average movie novelization; nothing special., May 30, 2006
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
In this novelization of the second Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Man's Chest, Jack, Will, and Elizabeth are back for another adventure. Will and Elizabeth's wedding day should have been the happiest of their lives, but instead, at the orders of Lord Beckett, who has been sent to Port Royal by the East India Trading Company, they are arrested and thrown in prison for helping Jack Sparrow escape. Lord Beckett is determined to rid the Caribbean of all pirates, and he forces Will to leave Elizabeth behind in jail and go off in search of Jack. Meanwhile, Jack, who made a deal with the notorious Davy Jones years ago, has run out of time, and is being hunted down by Davy and the sea monster he commands, the terrifying Kraken. Also Elizabeth has made her own escape and is searching for Will and Jack.

That's the basic premise of the beginning of the movie; I don't want to say more because it's not in theaters yet and won't be for another month, so I don't want to spoil too much. I read the book because I couldn't wait to find out what happens. It does a decent job of telling the story, but the writing isn't particularly great and there isn't much detail. If you really want to know what happens, go ahead and read this book, otherwise, there really isn't much point and you may as well just wait to see the movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Savvy, Mates!!, July 1, 2006
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
First off: if you are expecting literary brilliance here, you WILL be disappointed, because this was not written for the teen or adult crowd, it is about a fourth or fifth grade reading level. With that in mind, I very much enjoyed it! A good reader can pound through it in about an hour, as the font is very large, the writing style simplistic and there isn't much detail. However, it's great if you just want a quick, perky little read to occupy some time, or if you are like me and simply can't wait until the opening of the movie to know what happens to Captain Jack Sparrow and his associates. If you are familiar with the first movie/book, you will recognize some old faces, such as the bumbling pirates Pintel and Ragetti. There's enough action to keep a young reader occupied, yet it isn't so complicated that a child couldn't get through it, so moms, this one is awesome for your "Pirates" obsessed little boys!!

So, keep in mind that this book is meant for children, take it for what it's worth, and if nothing else, just enjoy the movie stills inserted in the middle of the book. (Okay, okay, I admit that I bought it just for the pics of Orlando!!)Although I was slightly disappointed in the abrupt ending, I do not regret buying it and would do so again. If you are a "Pirates" fanatic, there is no reason you shouldn't at least check it out.

I gave this book 4 stars because the book was amazing and filled with lots and lots of adventure. Me and my class loved the book, we thought that Jack was very sneaky and always getting in and out of trouble. He was our favorite person in the book. The book was well written and very descriptive:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead Men Tell No Tales - Jack's time is up!, June 14, 2006
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie told the story of Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl. Jack Sparrow was joined on his adventures by Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. In the sequel, Dead Man's Chest, Jack, Will, and Elizabeth are back for more adventures on the high seas.

Davy Jones's curse and the Dead Man's Chest are what the story is primarily about. A long time ago, Jack Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones. The agreement was that Jack could be the captain of his own ship, but in return Davy Jones would get Jack's soul. Now Davy Jones has come to collect Jack's soul but Jack's not ready to become one of Davy's crew.

The story starts off catching up with Will and Elizabeth, who are getting married but instead of wedded bliss, Will and Elizabeth are arrested and thrown in prison because they helped Jack and the new magistrate, Lord Beckett, wants to rid the Caribbean of pirates. Lord Beckett forces Will to leave Elizabeth behind and go in search of Jack.

Jack is being hunted down by Davy Jones whose come to collect his soul. Davy Jones commands a terrifying sea monster called the Kraken. Soon after, Elizabeth escapes jail and begins to search for Will and Jack. Things go from bad to worse when Davy Jones raises his ship from the depths and comes after Jack.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a great adventure story and recommended for anyone who loves pirates. For adventure lovers, I also recommend "The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches" and "In the Service of Dragons."

1.0 out of 5 stars Not happy, July 5, 2011
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
I ordered the Dead Man's Chest junior novelization and received a different book. Please check before you ship! When you are dealing with children's books, please remember you have a child on the other end of the order who is excited to get their book in the mail and then they are crushed when it is not the book they ordered.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
This book was a great disappointment. Can't the author make an ending that satisfies readers? I don't know about anybody else, but in my opinion, having the best character being drowned by a sea monster is not a good ending. The beginning of the book is ok, but if the best character dies, and the good guys can't destroy the villain, then forget it. This is not a good book at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K., July 6, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Junior Novelization (Paperback)
the book was good but it seemed like it went through everything too quick and it takes like an hour to read. I was very suprised at the ending and i think that the movie will have the ending be better because **SPOILERS** i have read some things on the internet saying that elizabeth and will go to tia to find out how to bring jack back and that barborssa makes a appearence at the very end. **SPOILERS ENDED** so overall i think its ok.
