Funny excitement!,
By mayflower (BFE North, Ca. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: City of Gold - Jack Sparrow #7 (Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow) (Paperback)
I've read the entire series of the Jack Sparrow books to my son. I've had a blast reading them! I think I might like them more than he does...and he's nine! I love the humor of Jack-just like the Jack Johnny Depp plays in the movies. The books are funny and exciting, edge-of-my-son's-seat type of excitement. We've shared many laughs while reading them together.
In The City of Gold, Captain Jack and the crew of the Barnacle are in search of their first mate, Arabella. As they search the silver city of New Orleans the encounter the beautiful and dangerous Madame Minuit and her pirate brood! The evil Madame plans to mine the city for her own selfish needs. Wonderful read and can't wait for Volume 8!

The Tale of the Amulet Ends...,
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: City of Gold - Jack Sparrow #7 (Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow) (Paperback)
I must say, I am enjoying reading Rob Kidd's JACK SPARROW series, chronicling the early adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew aboard the mighty ship, the Barnacle. And CITY OF GOLD continues the action, adventure, and mysterious magic contained in the rest of these piratical books.
For CITY OF GOLD, Jack and his crew are racing back to New Orleans to try and find their missing first mate, Arabella, and Jack wouldn't mind finding the final gem that fits into the mysterious amulet he's acquired. If he can find that last gem, then the true power of the amulet will be revealed. But along the way, Madame Minuit and her minions are after Jack -- and this time it will take a battle to the very finish before all is revealed... The pacing works well again in this volume, but for some reason it seemed to lack a spark that previous titles had, such as book five, THE AGE OF BRONZE. Kidd also seems to be wrapping things up rather quickly to start another storyline that centers around the mysterious Tia Dalma and crew member Fitzwilliam. And in the last moments of the book, a new and rather nefarious villain enters the scene, which does promise good things to come in book eight, THE TIMEKEEPER. There is still plenty of action and humor, and fans of the series will want to read this volume to keep up with what's happening in Jack Sparrow's world. But again, it's not the absolute best. We'll see where Kidd goes in the next volume, however, as it does promise to be very interesting...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: City of Gold - Jack Sparrow #7 (Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow) (Paperback)
I love this series. This is my favorite book in it. The stories are great and the characters are really fun to read about. Jack is really an amazing character and his "friendship" with Fitzwilliam is great. I would definetly recomend this book!

Big hit with a seven year old,

This review is from: Pirates of the Caribbean: City of Gold - Jack Sparrow #7 (Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow) (Paperback)
A little boy who doesn't like to read much is entranced by these Jack Sparrow books. They're well written for kids with a sense of adventure. Like the Hardy Boys or a dozen other series before them, they deliver a consistent and familiar character in cleverly worked plots. The one thing I'd like to change would be to add few more illustrations. All you get here is the illustration on the cover.

I bought these books for my 12yr old daughter. She's a huge POTC fan & has gobbled these books down. Now she has the whole set (9 in all). She enjoyed them immensely & wishes more were available.
