MY KIDS LOVE THIS TOY,

I have to disagree with the other reviews... We are having a great time with this toy. All 3 of my children (3,4 and 7) have loved playing with it. I did, however make some modifications to the ship.
The other reviews are correct that the pieces fall off of this ship very easily. I took some superglue and glued all of the masts (even the one that is supposed to collapse), the angel figure, and all other pieces that did not need to move during play. I then let it dry for a few days.(I did it before the b-day,so the kids wouldn't have to wait) This made the ship MUCH more stable. I also took some dull scissors and made several ragged holes in the sails, which looks much better and more authentic. If you take the time to do this, you will be much happier with the ship. My kids have been playing with this ship all day, and I have only had to reassemble two of the breakaway pieces. There are several activities to keep the kids entertained like a couple of trap doors, 3 cannons that fire with sound effects, 2 zip lines, a breakaway section on the side of the "brig", and more.

"Santa" brought my sons the Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest Ultimate Black Pearl Playset and the Isla Cruces Playset...I have 6 children ranging in age from 22 to 5 and it has been a very long time since I have been so disappointed in a toy!!!!!!! In regards to the Black Pearl... the angel figurehead does not stay on, the fore sprit does not stay put, the masts do not stay up or together (particularly fore mast A on which is supposed to attach to the electronic button control and also collapse) and cosmetically the "sails" are not those pictured on the box but look like something from the Fisher Price Little People playsets. Every attempt to move the Pearl results in complete collapse....poor...poor thought to effective construction for play. As for Isla Cruces....pretty much a ditto although due to size it is slightly more stable in construction. One of the extending pieces of the runaway mill wheel holder (larger side with the lever) which appears to have been bent in packing("whitened" plastic, incorrect angle) weakened and snapped. Uncounted attempts to align the gears on the mill wheel to function as intended have overall been fruitless....my children have had better Happy Meal toys.

Our five year old was so happy to get this for Christmas this past year, but the pirate ship is probably the worst constructed toy we have ever had. The designers of this toy did not take into account the target age group and their ability to put the pieces back together. The minute you touch the ship it falls apart, leaving the child frustrated and disappointed. I definately DO NOT recommend this toy, ESPECIALLY for how much it costs! Totally not worth it!

falls apart,

This toy contantly falls apart as my six-year-old plays with it. It is too difficult for him to put back together and time consuming for an adult. All of the parts fall off, as many as 20 pieces, so the pieces end up everywhere. This product would be better for a adult collector not for kids.

I'm an adult POTC fan who buys the occasional bit of memorabilia here and there - saw this at someone's house and just HAD to have it. So I am using it mostly as a display piece in my den. There seems to be several versions of this, with different features (plastic sails, black sails, grey sails). Somewhat annoyingly I received the grey-sail version with black masts - would have preferred the gold crosspieces? like on the box.
Assembled, for the most part this is an impressive piece that just looks really cool. Some uneven manufacturing - on the one hand, the lanterns, back decoration, and figurehead are made of a softer plastic and are nicely detailed. On the other hand the iconic black sails of the Pearl are just this horrible cheap fabric, and if you have seen "At World's End" you notice that the sails are blackish, and heavily patched up from damage that happened in "Dead Man's Chest". It's something about POTC and the Black Pearl you don't think about, but you really notice it when the Pearl's iconic black sails are dealt with this indifferently - also the cloth is just stuffed into tight slits in the plastic mast crosspieces - probably will be difficult to fix if the sails are ever pulled out. I would have given this a "4" rating but sadly, although assembled it is a really cool toy, I have to agree with other annoyed reviewers about assembly and durability. The main masts went in their holes, but don't fit tightly. Had a terrible time getting the largest crow's nest on - and how long would this string you lower figures on last - plus you use a dial to wind it back up again - and wouldn't the two retracting lines on the 2 crows' nests topple after being pulled on by a kid? Other features seem to me too frustrating or finicky for a child - the exploding side is neat, but you have it finesse it back together. The captain's cabin and the section under that swings away seem to fall apart too easily for a child's use. Some sections the plastic seems way too thin to stand up to heavy play. BTW the firing cannons seem to fine for kids, they fire well but not hard enough to do damage. It's too bad as the designers seemed like they had a lot of fun adding features to this - I can see for the right kids it would definitely provide hours of play and fun, as long as it held together. I can also see why it gets mixed reviews - this is a fairly good, feature-packed, rendition of the Black Pearl, but has some durability and assembly issues. I'm happy enough with it, and if I get inclined may someday improve the sails, ratlines, grey deck, etc. For kids - get some model cement and glue all parts not used in play. Overall - great toy for the right family, use glue, and it DOES suck that my version came with NO figures. I am using an inexpensive 3 1/4" Disney-made set, they are not too bad, but eventually will shell out for the more expensive Zizzle-made figures. The ship looks forlorn completely empty, but parents should factor in the cost of the figures which looks like it could add up fast.

Our little one is a huge an of the Pirates movies - and is also very into imaginative play. Hence we purchased this and she really does love it - this ship is huge, with lots of little compartments, detail, effects and the room for her to play and create adventures!
However, this is one of those toys that kids will love, and parents will find mighty fustrating! Simply moving this toy results in various pieces falling off!!! It is designed so pieces come off to reveal other activities...but it would be nice if one could actually take off a piece, rather than have it topple off with just the slightest movement! Like many others have suggested, you can glue some pieces in place such as the masts which never stay put...however, in our case, even the strongest superglue did not last long, and once again the masts fall off! I think its partly poor design as these things are a bit too top heavy and the maker could have made a toy where the pieces clip into place a little more securely which might prevent this from happening! All in all its a toy that your child will love and have many hours of fun with - but parents might find it a tad fustrating having to assemble it before and during play on a frequent basis! Great concept - iffy design!

The boat has some issues, but it is not as bad as the other reviews indicate. Certainly this is not the most fragile toy I have ever bought my kids. Here's a quick run down:
Pros: * The boat is really big. Your kid can definitely plan out some pretty elaborate stories on this thing. * There are a lot of doors, compartments, and etc. The upper deck of the boat's mid section slides out to reveal the cargo hold, along with the 3 cannons. I can imagine a kid spending hours playing with it. * The boat is very feature-rich, with sound playback, flashing red lights for the cannons, winches in the crows nests, and etc. * The boat is reasonably detailed, certain aspects are almost display-quality. The molding of the boat is of fairly good quality, with sharp details and no extraneous flashings. * The cannons have some real power to them. The projectiles will fy far. Cons: * Assembly of the masts will leave a lot of parents scratching their heads. It will ask you to squeeze a circular post into a hexagon hole, and an extremely tight fit at that. I sat there for a solid minute or two looking at the peg and the hole wondering if this is a cruel prank that a factory worker has decided to pull. This is especially true of the main mast and the large crow's nest. But if you really force it, it will go together and is fairly stable afterwards. Others have suggested some superglue on the masts, and I am inclined to agree. * Yes, the sails are a joke compared to the detail of the rest of the boat. They are just swatches of cheap dull gray fabric with unfinished edges. * It doesn't come with any figures. Not one! What's a boat without a captain? Come on! At least throw in *one* figure. My kid is having a lot of fun with this boat. It doesn't collapse every time he touches it. Nothing falls off except for the angel figure at the front. Everything else stays put even without super glue. I don't think this toy is worth the full price of admission, but for what it's been selling for on Amazon (under twenty), it's a great toy. Now I need to go buy "Captain Jack Sparrowwwwws!"

My little bro got this for christmas and it is now been a few months since we got this ship (some of the reviews are confused, there a at least 3 versions of this ship), we got the particular one that has most of the main characters, but no crew. The ship doe need a lot of glue mostly in the decor, the stern (behind)lanterns and the prow figure and rail. the mast has a tendency to fall, they might have included another one of those rope-things (look at the pix of the ship, main mast, that thing really stabalizes the mast and that one hasent fallen off for 3 months!)
one of the aft mast would help, you can see were you would attach it plastick rope to the ship. I even took of the one set of stabaliver and it fit on the front really good. the cannons work on the deck of the ship there are little slots were they can go. I actualy would have goten the set with no guys so I could get the set of all the guys WITH WEAPONS this set does have them (guys and weapons)but, of you get more guys the ecomomical way there are going to ge duplicats. so when are we going to get a Flying Duchman?

If your child likes the Jack Sparrow movies you'll want this toy for them. Yes, it is not the most durable toy and I wouldn't suggest letting 3-4 5 y/o play with it simultanously. I took a previously written review to heart and glued alot of the "loose" parts into place. However the hyper cousin visiting after the holidays managed to disprove the super glue commercial. However the McGyver in the parental units proved handy and the mast has been repaired good as new. Buy it and get some glue!
