Editorial Reviews

For centuries they plundered merchant ships and pillaged coastal towns, and now the most famous pirates of all return to action in this high-seas docu-drama! Seeking to pierce the distorting veil of legend, this unique program reenacts the real-life stories of such pirates as the fiendish Blackbeard, who didn’t just raid and rob: his style was to personally frighten and intimidate as well. The program also captures the considerably gentler Captain William Kidd, who became a pirate during a mid-life crisis; the fearsome "Black Bart" Roberts, who - - in a nasty pique - - burned down a slave ship with 80 people aboard; and two hard-nosed women, Mary Reed and Anne Bonny, who out-plundered and outfought most men - - and then used their gender to escape the hangman’s noose. The stories unfold as exciting and authentic dramas, told in some of the same settings where these colorful scoundrels lived and died.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised., March 4, 2004

This review is from: Pirates of the High Seas (DVD)
This is not a serial, nor was it produced in 1950. The Editorial Review is an accurate description of the disc, but that is at odds with the title header. So, buyer beware.

2.0 out of 5 stars Feel ripped off, February 18, 2004
This review is from: Pirates of the High Seas (DVD)
Amazon advertised this as being a 'serial'. Unfortunately, this is NOT the same 'Pirates of the High Sea's' that starred Buster Crabbe. Probably will try to send this back.
