Editorial Reviews

Original soundtrack to the 2011 blockbuster featuring Hans Zimmer and Rodrigo and Gabriela. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he's not sure if it's love-or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh? May 18, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, it's a little disappointing. I mean how couldn't it be? You had the first soundtrack which was incredible. The follow up came blasting in with new themes like Jack Sparrow, Kraken, and Davy Jones to work with so it was also pretty great. At World's End was just mind blowing conclusion to a trilogy with no filler tracks or disappointments at all. So after a trilogy of successful, mind-blowing music, it's obviously gonna be a little tough to follow up. So that said, you may feel a bit disappointed if you listen to At Worlds End and then this. The addition of Rodrigo y Gabriela was nice but alas, there were ZERO new themes. Blackbeard and Angelica are good tracks, but they're not confident and bold like Davy Jones or the Jack Sparrow themes. Hans Zimmer has been known to experiment a lot and it often REALLY works for him like on Inception or the Dark Knight. But there's not much room for experimentation on Pirates of the Caribbean. Folks wanna hear bold themes that set themselves apart not ambient music.

Hans Zimmer still is and always will be my hero. He's a great composer who has never composed a bad piece of music. His only flaw is he sets our expectations far too high haha! The album is still pretty good though. I suggest the tracks 3 - Mutiny, 7 - Palm Tree Escape, and 11 - End Credits (can't get enough of that good ol' theme song).

4.0 out of 5 stars Why??? May 17, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I love the music of Hans Zimmer, and the music on this album is no exception. In fact, if you purchased this album at all there's a good chance you love his music as well. The presence of these "remixes" on his music is kinda silly in that if you sought this album out, then chances are you didn't want to hear techno. So why couldn't they give us more of the reason that we actually bought this album rather than the annoying space fillers? I grudgingly subtract a star for this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who wants those damn remixes? May 20, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I just saw the movie today and was blown away by how great the music was. Every cue was so great, every single theme was woven together with great detail. I love Hans Zimmer, I love what he did in the film. I absolutely hate what the did on this album. Who in their right mind would make a third of the music on a film's album dumb ass techno remixes?
Zimmer deserves the pay from this album but whoever srewed with it should definately get the boot.
Sad, sad day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great, if you like Spanish guitar music
It’s a concert of pirate flamenco music – and odd disco, hipster ‘remixes’. I was very disappointed. Do you savvy, mate?
