Pirates of the Spanish Main is an excellent game for anyone between the ages of 8 to 88. Its a constructable stradegy card game, which means you build the ships, forts, etc...
The pieces are rather durable plastic, kind of like credit cards, so they won't break too easy, a little caution is recommended for younger ones who might not be as careful. The game mechanics are really easy to follow and to learn. The replay value is awesome too, you can do ceartain senarios that will give you a totally different game each time you play.
With each set more features and rules get added, making the game that much more enjoyable. Another great aspect is that there's actual ships from history, which is a great way to get your kids interested in boating and history. It's not all about ARRRRRR ME MATEY, unless you want it to be ;) You only need one pack per person to get started, everything needed is included, including dice!

My son, 8yo, recieved a pack as a birthday present and we have purchased 4 additional packs since. He has a great time learning about the ships and constructing scenarios. The rules are quite broad but he is picking them up with each game he plays. There are also great Flash animations at the PSM web site that helped him understand the rules of correct game play. The only beef I have is that the masts tend to be a bit flimsy and have a tendency to break particularly since game play involves removing and replacing masts. Breaks can happen when you are trying to perform the initial construction. Maybe another example of a game more about collecting than actual play. A bit frustrating but with care, this is a cool game and a great idea.

i bought two packs of this great miniture game, and was really impressd.
in each of these packs you will find 2 ships, two islends, a rulebook and a die. the ships can belong to one of three nations (british, spanish or pirate). the disign is great, and you can see how derty the pirate ships are, while a spanish ship wiil be clean, it's sails white and carries a cross on them.
i found the ships assmbling very enjoyable, and learnd the trik easily.
anyone can find something in this game, so i recommend it to every single person who is reaiding this review.
